UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUEL W. WHITNEY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT lNLEAF-SUPPORTS FOR SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,235, dated January 26, 1875; application filed November 2, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I RUEL W. WHITNEY, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented an Improved Table-Leaf Support for Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to an improved tableleaf support for sewing-machines, consisting of the leg D, having slot n, in combination with the middle joint of the support provided with the lug m. It consists further, of the combination of the said support D having the slot n and the lug m, with the table 0 and the folding leaf B, as hereinafter described and claimed.
To enable others to fully understand my invention I will proceed to describe the same in detail by the aid of the accompanying drawing, in which a portion of a sewing-machine table and table-leaf is represented having my improved support attached. The dotted lines represent the table-leaf turned down.
A represents a portion of a table-top, and B the table-leaf. G is a cabinet of drawers suspended from the table A. D is the tableleaf support, made in parts and jointed in the middle and both ends, said middle joint consisting of a pin, d, fixed in one part and playing in a slot a, in the other part. A lug, w, on the upper side of the one part permits the two parts to drop slightly below the straight line, and locks them in the position seen with the leaf up. The ends of the support D are provided with jointed hinges E E, which are secured by screws to the leaf B and the cabinet of drawers C. To drop the leaf it is only necessary to slightly raise the support at the middle joint, when the leaf will drop, and the leaf and support will assume the position seen in the dotted lines.
Having described my invention, I claim- 1. The leg I), having the slot n, in combination with the middle joint of the support, provided with lug 00, substantially as described.
2. The support D, having the slot n and the lug x, in combination with the table 0 and folding leaf B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
