WALKING DOLL WITH VOICE.

ri`he present invention relates to improvements in toys, particularly in walking dolls, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide such a doll with a voice which is sounded during the movement of the legs.

Another object of the invention is the` provision of means actuated by the operation or movements of the dolls legs or limbs to sound the voice.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a doll of this character with means for sounding the voice after a predetermined number of steps only so that the Voice is not permanently actuated during the walking motions.

A still further object of my invention is the provision of a doll of this type with means for actuating the voice during an inclination of the doll or during its up and down movements.

It is furthermore, also an object of the present invention to provide a doll of this kind with a ratchet mechanism which operates independently from the movements of the head or limbs or is connected therewith.

With these ends in view the invention resides in the provision of a ratchet mechanism which is progressively operated by the movements of the legs and which is connected with the voice actuating mechanism.

These and other objects of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be speciiically pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawing:

Fig. 1 is a vertical section through a doll equipped with a mechanism according to the present invention, with the ratchet wheel horizontally disposed.

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary top plan view of the novel device.

Within the body 10 of a doll the bellows 11 for actuatin the voice is arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of the doll. A lever rod 12 is secured to the bellows and operatively engaged in part with the horizontally disposed clockwise rotating ratchet wheel 13, equipped with upright pins 1.4-, alternately arranged and oppositely disposed to each other. To the reciprocating angular member 15 which is arranged upon the axle of the ratchet wheel 13 a pawl 16 is attached operating under the permanent action of a Spring 17. A lever 18 is pivotally secured intermediate its length to a bracket it) and is operated by means of a link 20, the free end of which is engaged by the operating rod 21 secured to the legs of the doll. The movements of the legs vduring the walking motions of the doll are transmitted tl'irough lever 18 to the angular. member 15 and pawl 16 to the ratchet 13. During this operation one of the pins 14 of the ratchet wheel will engage rod 12 to operate thebellows 11 whereafter it is again released therefrom to allow the contraction of the bellows. It will require a rotation of the ratchet wheel for several steps or teeth so that the voice will be sounded only after the execution of several steps by the walking doll.

The engagement between pin 14 and the rod 12 will be interrupted after each expansion of the bellows, which then is contracted by means of the spring controlled weight pressing against its movable member, until upon the continued clockwise operation of the ratchet wheel 18 by the intermediary of member 15 on the axle of said wheel, the second pin 14- will again engage the rod 12 to again expand the bellows.

Changes may be made in the general arrangement, and in the specific construction of the minor details of my invention without departing from the scope and spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A walking doll comprising a voice mechanism and movable legs, means for sounding said voice, a ratchet mechanism, a connection between said ratchet mechanism Yand said voice sounding means, and an operating mechanism connected with said movable legs and adapted to operate said ratchet mechanism for the operation of said voice sounding means after the executionI of a predetermined number of steps by the legs of the doll.

2. In a device of the class described including a bellows for sounding a dolls voice and movable legs, a ratchet wheel, a shaft for said ratchet wheel, an angular member on said shaft, means on said angular member for imparting to said ratchet wheel a step by step motion and connections between saidangular member and the movable legs, an Operating rod secured, to .Said bellows and.

3. In a walking doll provided with a "voice, a bellows for sounding said voice, a ratchet wheel, a shaft for Said wheel, an angular member secured to the shaft, a pawl on said member adapted to engage and impart to said ratchet wheel a step by step motion, pins on said ratchet wheel and a rod seemed to said bellows and adapted to be engaged by said pins for operating:T said bellows to sound the voice, and means connected with said doll adapted to operate said pawl for sounding said Voice after a picdetein'ined number of Walking operations executed by the legs of said doll.
