BUTTON FASTENER.
Application led October 19, 1925. Serial No. 63,435.
This invention relates to improvements in button fasteners, and more particularly to an improvement over the button fastener embodied in Patent No. 1548880, granted to me August 11, 1925.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a button fastener which includes a body member' having a sleeve like portion extending upwardly from` the central portion thereof, additional means being provided for securing the locking pin which is associated with a button, and which is adapted to extend into said sleeve so that the button will be prevented from becoming accidentally displaced from a garment on which the same 1s to be at-V tached.
A further object is to provide a button fastener of the above mentioned character which may be readily and easily attached to a garment, the fastener being of such con struction as to obviate the necessity of having to employ sewing thread for securing the same on the garment.
A still further object is to provide a button fastener of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a button of any conventional construction, the samebeing provided with the looped shank portion 2. The fastener comprising a pin designated generally by the numeral 3, the same being formed of resilient material, and in the present case is formed of a single strand of wire which is looped intermediate its ends as illustrated at 4, the free ends 5 and 6 respectively being disposed in parallel abutting relation as is more clearly illustrated in Figure 1.
The terminals of the free ends of the locking pin are beveled as clearly illustrated at 7. The parallel disposed free end portions 5 and 6 are further provided with the notches 8 and 9 respectively, and the purpose thereof will hereinafter be more fully described. rlhe looped portion 4 of the locking pin engages the looped shank portion 2 of the button 1 in the manner shown in Figure l so that the locking pin will be carried by the button.
The holder for the locking pin comprises the body portion 10, the same being formed of a single length of sheet metal material, and being preferably circular in design. rThe body portion is provided with an upwardly disposedy annular flange 11 at its outer' edge and extending upwardly from the central portion of the body portion and struck up therefrom is the sleeve-like member 12.
This sleeve-like member is substantially oblong in top and bottom plan as is clearly illustrated. Furthermore the body portion 10 is somewhat conical, and the upper edge of the sleeve like member 12 extends above the upper edge of the flange 11, this is more clearly illustrated in Figure 3. Formed in the shorter side of the oblong shaped screen 12 are the slots 13 and 14 respectively, and the purpose thereof will be presently apparent.
As is more clearly shown in Figures l and 2, the upper edge of the upwardly disposed annular flange 11 is disposed inwardly for retaining the locking spring 15 in position on the upper face of the body portion 10. This spring 15 is so bent as to provide the looped portions 16 and the free ends 17 and 18 are disposed in parallel spaced relation, and the same normally eX tend transversely within the slots 13 and 14 respectively formed in the shorter sides of the sleeve like member 12. The purpose of this spring will also be presently apparent. A disc 19 provides a cover for the body portion, and the same rests on the springll, and the outer edgeoi the disc 19 is disposed beneath the inwardly disposed portion of the annular llange 11. In a fastener for a button wherein the latter is provided with a looped shank portion, a resilient locking pin formed of a single strand of wire looped intermediate its ends, said looped portion being adapted for engagement with the looped shank portion of the button, the free ends of said locking pin being disposed in parallel abutting relation, said free end portions being provided with notches in the sides thereof adjacent the looped portion of the pin, a holder for said pin comprising a body portion having its outer edge turned upwardly, a sleeve like member struck upwardly from the central portion of said body and adapted to receive the free end of the locking pin, said sleeve being provided with opposed slots, and means associated with the body for securing the pin in said holder when the notches are in alignment with the respective slots, said means comprising a spring formed of a single strand of wire, the free ends thereof being disposed in parallel spaced relation and normally extending transversely in the respective slots formed in said sleeve.

In a fastener for a button wherein the latter is provided with a looped shank portion, a resilient locking pin formed of a single strand of wire looped intermediate its ends, said looped portion being adapted for engagement with the looped shank portion of the button, the free ends of said locking pin heilig disposed in parallel abutting relation, said free end portions being provided with notches in the sides thereof adjacent the looped portion of the pin, a holder for said pin comprising a body portion having its outer edge turned upwardly, a sleeve like member struck upwardly from the central portion of said body and adapted to receive the free end of the locking pin, said sleeve being provided with opposed slots, means associated with the body for securing the pin in said holder when the notches are in alignment with the respective slots, said means comprising a spring formed of a single strand of wire, the free ends thereof being disposed in parallel spaced relation and normally extending transversely in the respective slots formed in said sleeve, and means for retaining said spring on the body portion.

In a fastener for a button wherein the latter is provided with a looped shank porti-on, a resilient locking pin formed of a single strand of wire looped intermediate its ends, said looped portion being adapted for engagement with the looped shank portion of the button, the free ends of said locking pin being disposed in parallel abutting relation, said free end portions being provided with notches in the sides thereof adjacent the looped portion of the pin, a holder for said pin comprising a body portion having its outer edge turned upwardly, a sleeve like member struck upwardly from the central portion of said body and adapted to receive the free end of the locking pin, said sleeve being provided with opposed slots, means associated with the body for securing the pin in said holder when the notches are in alignment with the respective slots, said means comprising a spring formed of a single strand of wire, the free ends thereof being disposed in parallel spaced relation and normally extending transversely in the respective slots formed in the sleeve, and means for retaining said spring on the body portion, and means for securing the sleeve in an opening provided therefor in a garment.
