Description

`,Jne 22 1926.
E. c. 'SCHILLERSTROM BUCKLE Filed March 7. 1925 Patented June 22, 1926.
UNITED sra'rss ELLSWRTH C. SCHILLERSTROM, OF LOCKRIDGE, IOWA.
BUCKLE.
Application filed. March 7, 1925.
The device relates to buckles for overshoes, clothing generally, automobile curtains, tents, and thelike, and is designed to prevent accidental loosening when in a locked position and still admit of the buckle being easily released by proper manipulation, the device being neat in appearance and adapted to be readily operated. j
The invention will be described in detail hereinafter-and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a fragmental view of an overshoe showing the application of the invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the overshoe showing the fastener in position,
VFigure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the buckle or fastener,
Figure 4L- is a sectional view on a plane indicated by the line l-li of Figure 3,
Figure is a similar View on a plane indicated by the line 5 5 of Figure 3,
Figure 6 is a similar view on a plane indicated by the line 6--5 of Figure 3, and
Figure 7 is a view in perspective of the latch member.
In the drawings similar reference characters will be used to designate corresponding parts in the several views.
The buckle comprises a plate l having a housing 2 secured thereon in any suitable manner, and provided with slotted openings 3 and l in its end and above the plate l. 5 indicates a complemental plate having teeth 6 formed or pressed therein, said plate 5 being adapted to be inserted through the slots 3 and 4. 7 indicates a latch member in housing 2 and having a down turned `frange 8 adapted to engage with teeth 6 to hold the plate 5 from disengagement relatively to the housing 2, being held in engagement therewith by means of a U-shaped spring 9 having odset portions l0 at the bight of the U that seats in notches 1l in the sides of latch member 7, `the arms of the il loosely engaging the top of the housing 2. The U-shaped spring 9 functions as a pivot for the locking plate 7 as well as the means for holding it normally in locking position. l2 indicates diagonally disposed slots in the side walls of housing 2 in which are seated extensions 13 formed on the latch member 7 and reinforced by bending the material of the latch member back on itself as shown clearly in Figure 7.
Serial No. 13,790.
ln operation, it will be apparent that by inserting the member 5 through slots 3 and 4, the latch member 7 will ride on the teeth 6 and by engaging the edge of one of the teeth will hold the member 5 from displacement relatively to the housing 2 until the latch member is released by engaging one or both of the projections 13 of the latch member and lifting it, the projections moving in the slots l2 in the side walls of the casing or housing 2.' Y
'AlVhat is claimed -is l. A buckle comprising two members, a housing on one member having slots therein to receive the other member, teeth on the second member, a latch member consisting of a plate having a iange to engage said teeth, l
and a ici-shaped springengaging said plate, pivoting it in the housing and also holding the latch member in cngagement'with the teeth.
2. A buckle comprising two members, one of said members having a housing thereon with slots therein, the other member having teeth, said second described member being adapted to enter said housing through some of said slots, a latch member comprising a plate having projections extending through other of said slots, a flange on said plate to engage said teeth, and a U-shaped spring engaging said plate, pivoting it in 'the housing and also holding said ila-nge in engagement with the teeth.
3. A buckle comprising two plates, a housing secured to one of said plates, teeth on the other of said plates, said housing provided with slots to receive the secondV mentioned plate, a latch member comprising a plate, a flange on said plate to engage said teeth, projections extending laterally from said plate, the housing provided with inclined slots to receive said projections, the latch plate having notches therein, and a U-shaped spring engaging said notches and provided with eX- tensions at the bight of said member.
4. A buckle comprising a housing provided with openings, a plate adapted to enter said housing through the openings therein, a latch member adapted to engage said plate, and a spring engaging said latch member, pivoting it in the housing and also holding the latch member in engaging position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. ELLSVORTl-I C. SCHILLERSTROM.
