One object of the invention is to provide a rotor connection between a nozzle and a steam supply pipe in such manner that it the steam supply pipe is set in a vertical position the nozzle will be in a plane at an acute angle to the horizontal and always be maintained a the same angle of pitch throughout all the sweeping movement of the nozzle.
The invention is especially intended to be applied to use with soot lowers for tube boilers in which a plurality of noz. are employed to inject steam to clean tubes. It is further especially intended for application to that class of water tube boilers in which the boiler tubes are set in a plane at a slight pitch to the horizontal. One object of the invention is to provide such a construction of the pipe fitting and rotor and nozzle connections that the nozzles will always be maintained at the same angle of pitch as the plane of the boiler tubes throughout the entire sweeping movement of the nozzles.
The invention will be fully understood from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereot will be pointed out and clearly defined in the claims at the close of this specification.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a view in elevation showing a portion of a water tube boiler furnace having apparatus en'ibodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view showing the rotor connection of one of the nozzles with one of the fittings.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings, .1. represents the brick setting of: a boiler furnace, 2 the steel casing and mount for the soot blower apparatus. 3 a series Of tubes which form a part of the boiler, and i a vertical steam feed pipe for supplying steam to the series of nozzles 5.
The boiler tubes 3 are at slight angle of pitch one above another, it being understood that as usual there are a number of series of boiler tubes in different planes of elevation, those in each series being at the same elevation. Only one tube of each series is shown in the drawings.
Each nozzle 5 has a swivel connection with a port 26 in the side of a branch memher 6 which is mounted in an opening 7 in the side of the vertical steam teed pipe 4,

so that each of said nozzles may be al' we l to swing and to direct its discharge of steam in a wide sweep between the boiler .ubes.
Each nozzle. extends between the planes of an upper and a lower series of boiler tubes. lt is in'iportant that the nozzle snonld be parallel with the boiler tubes in all the various ranges of sweep. l provide a peculconstruction of swivel connection be the nozzles and the branch member to maintain each nozzle at the sam to the plane oi the boiler out all its various movement on its axis of oscillation.
The teed pipe l-, as already stated, preterably stands in a vertical position. The branch members 6 are fixedly secured to the feed pipe 4:, preferably by being screwed therein, and each having a. port 7 which leads from the steam supply pipe to the branch 6. The branch member 6 extends at right angles to the feed pipe i and therefore its ZLXlS' is horizontal.
Each nozzle 5 preferably is located at a slightly higher elevation than the member 6 so that its connection. with. the member (3 is on the upper side thereof. Each member 6 is connected with an elbow 8 which has a. dowmvardiy extending arm 8 whose axis at right angles to the longitudinal axis ot the nozzles 5 so that as the nozzle 5 is at a. sh ght angle of pitch to the horizontal the axis of the arm 8" of the elbow will have an angle of pitch with relation to the vertical equal to the same angle of pitch of the nozzle 5 to the horizontal. For instance, it the nozzle 5 is pitched at an angle of 5" axis of the elbow arm t0 the horizontal, the 8 will be at an angle of 5 to the vertical. Correspondingly, as the axis of the member 6 is horizontal. the axis of the elbow arm 8- will be inclined an oi to the longitudinal axis of the member 6.

lhe swivel connection of the nozzles with the member 6 is by means of a rotor 10 which is screwed into the arm 8 of the elbow 8 and has a swivel. connection. with an annular cap or curb 11 connected to the member 6. Said curb 11 is provided with a flange 12 which rests upon a list seat on the upper side of the member 6 and is secured thereto by screw bolts 14.
Said curb 11 has an upwardly extending shank formed with an annular flange 15 whose axis is pitched at the same angle as the axis of the arm 8, and has an under surface 16 which is in a plane pitched at an angle which is at right angles to the axis the said shank of the curb and which is iarullcl with the plane in which the nozzle a. moves. The rotor 10 has a flange head 17, the upper face 1 of said flange being seated upon the annular surface 16 or. the curb and being pitched at the same angle. The said rotor has a smooth periphery at that porlion which engages with the inner periphery l!) of the tla .ge portion 15 ot the ml hat it can readily turn therein.
Thus it will be seen that in all movements the ozzle it will swing in a plane which l n i at a. unitorm angle oil. pitch and which is at th same angle oi pitch as the boil 7 r tubes. in, suitable inezuis of rotating the said I be employed. Briefly such means is as follows: Two vertical guide rods 2020 are pro rided between which each nozzle extends. By this term oil, construction in which the member 6 is made in two sections as de scribed, there is a grea advantage both in assembling and being easily accessible for repairs. It can be readily seen that the members 6 bein screwed in at right angles to the vertical supply pipe the parts are more certain of being put in proper position in relation to each other than it the members 6 had to be located in a plane parallel to the pitch of the tubes. The flange seat for the rotor being machined at the same pitch as the tubes, makes it almost impos sible to have the nozzles in any other than their proper position in relation to the pitch of the tubes.
l'z heneyer it is desired to remove any one of the nozzles and its rotor, whether it be either one of the end nozzles nd its rotor or one of the intermediate ones, access may be easily had by means of a suitable tool to unscrew the bolts 14: of the rotor that it is desired to remove, which secure the rotor to the branch member 6, and then the rotor with the altaclwd nozzle may be easily lifted out without disturbing any of the ()Zllfi parts.
