This invention relates to chisel holders primarily adapted for use in railroad work, whereby nuts and bolts may be busted by driving the chisel therea-gainst without the necessity of having a separate workman hold the chisel in. hand as is now the case.
The primary object of the invention is to provide means for holding chisels at predetermined angles with respect to the bolt 01' nut to be busted without requiring the services of more than one operator and without the liability of one of the operators becoming hurt by being struck by the hammer swung by the other workman which is a danger always prevalent in the busting of nuts and bolts or other operations now being carried out through the use of a chisel.
A further important object of the invention is to provide a chisel holder that has vertical adjustment for obviously supporting the chisel in desired position with respect to the nut or bolt being busted.
With the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Referring now to the drawing, the novel holder constitutes the provision of a pair of supporting standards 55, that are preferably of steel, and of inverted V-shape configuration, the leg portions of which are formed their lower ends with outturned wings (5 for providing supporting feet therefor. These standards are maintained in spaced relation through the medium of a flat connecting bar 7, that is secured at its opposite ends to the top bars of the inverted Vshaped standards 5 through the medium of bolts, rivets, or the like.

For telescopic arrangement within the guide tubes 8 are tubes 9 that are formed with spaced cross openings 10 for the reception of pins 11 for maintaining the same in adjusted telescopic relation with respect to the tubes 8, see Fig. 3.
Formed at the upper encs of the tubes 9 are sections 12 of conventional two-part clamp, while for co-operation therewith are upper sections 13 between which a conventional chisel 14c is adapted to pass.
The ears of the sections of each clamp are provided with openings through which threaded bolts Ll pass and surrounding the same between the ears of the upper clamp sections and nuts 15 threaded thereon are expansible helical springs 16 that frictionally maintain the shank of the chisel between the sections for obviously preventing any rebound of the chisel when being struck by a hammer or mallet which will effectively maintain the point of the chisel in engagement with the bolt or nut during the busting of the same.
The movement of the holder is prevented by prongs 19, formed upon the feet of the outer standard, that may be driven into the ground or other support upon which the holder is disposed.
From the foregoing description, when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it will at once be apparent that l have provided a highly novel and simple form of chisel holder that will dispense with the necessity of having a workman supporting the same in such a manner that it may be driven against the work by a hammer or mallet.
It will be appreciated that the chisel 1 f may be positioned at various angles with respect to the work by raising or lowering the forward or rear telescopic part 9.
Minor changes may be made in the inveln tion without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. In a chisel holder of the class described, a stand construction, spaced vertical guide tubes carried by said stand, bars slidable and ad ustable within said tubes, and clamps upon the outer ends of the bars through which the shank of the chisel is to be disposed.
2. In a chisel holder of the class described, a stand construction, spaced vertical guide tubes carried by said stand, bars slidable and adjustable Within said tubes, clamps upon JASON J. THURSTON.
