Applicationvqled December 18, 1924. Serial Nb. 756,672.
This invention relates to certain new and useful\ improvements in fiushing attach- .ments for sinks, bathtubs and the like and has for its primary object to provide an attachment for a faucet or spigot\that cooperates with the drain outlet of t e sink, etc. whereby water under pressure@ forced through the outlet. pipe to dislodge and dischar obstructions in the drain pipe for iushingvand cleaning the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a' iiushing device of the type above set forth wherein a pipe or hose connection adapted for attachment to a ,spigot is detachably connected to an inverted bowl-shaped casing or. body that is placed over a drain open-ingof a. sink or the like with spiral ribs on the inner face of the body to'create the whirling action of water passing therethrough.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the inventionis better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the-accompanying drawing and claimed.,
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 shows a sectional view of a sink with the iushing attachment operatively asy sociated therewith and forming a direct water communication between the faucet and drain pipe for the sink,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the lower end of the flushing device showing the inverted bowl-shaped casing,
Figure 3 is a bottom 'plan view of the casing showing the spiral ribs upon the inner face of the bowl-shaped member,
Figure 4 is 'a fragmentary sectional view `showing the bayonet slot connection between the upper end of the bowl-'shaped member and the attaching plug carried by the lower end of the hose,
Figure 5 is a fragmentary side elevational view, and
Figure 6 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line VI-VI of Fig. 5.
It being understood that the present invention is designed for lushin the drain pipes of sinks, bathtubs and t e like, for purposes of illustration, the reference numeral 1 designates a sink supported in the usual manner upon the wall 2 with the faucet 3 outletting into the sink as illustrated in Fig. 1. The sink 'is provided with the usual drain opening 4 communicatin with the goose-neck or elbow pi e 5 o the kind generally employed in a rain' system of this character.
The flushing device embodies a flexible pipe or hose 6 positioned upon the faucet 3 as illustratedin Fig. 1 and retained thereon by the screw clamp 7 while the other end of the hose 6-has one end of a metallic' tube or pipe 8 received therein` and retained against leakage by the wire wrapping 6 as shown in Fig. 2. The lower end of the pipe 8 is exteriorly threaded and is removably received in the central threaded openingl bowl-shaped member and the bottom wall of the sink 1 surrounding the drain opening 4. To i'ncrease the efficiency of the water passling through the hose and bowl-shaped member, the .latterk is provided upon its inner face with a plurality of spaced spirally arranged ribs 15 to create a whirling action in the water passin/ therethrough. It will therefore be seen that with the upper end of thel hose 6 clamped upon the faucet 3, and with the lower edge of the bowlshaped member 11 having the 'gasket 14 thereon intimately engaging the bottom wall of thesink, a direct water connection is established between the faucet 3 and drain pipe 5 for effectively dislodging any obstructions therein and for flushing the pipe. The spiral ribs create a whirling action in the Water and enhance the agitating effect thereof in passing through the drain pipe.
While there is herein shown and described the referred embodiment of the present inl vention, it is nevertheless tobe understood that minor changes may b' made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is In a ilus l attachment for sinks and the like, comprising a flexible hose, a metallie .pipe secured in one end of said hose and having one end threaded, a block having an inclined outer wall and an internally screwthreaded opening centrally disposed therein for receivin the threaded end of said pipe, opposite'lj1 isposed lugs upon the outer inclined wall of said block, a bowl-shaped casing having a smooth non-anged outer wall and an opening in its top portion having an inclined surrounding wall provided with oppositely disposed L-shaped recesses formed therein for receiving thelugs of said block for attaching 'said casing thereto, spiral ribs on the inner wall of said casing to eect a whirling action of the water passing there- 20 through, said spiral ribs extending from the discharge end to the topV opening of said casing, and a gasket of L-shaped cross-section secured to and embracing the discharge v end of said casing. l
` In testimony whereof we aix our signatures.
