Parleur OFFICE. l'
CHARLES C. W'ARNER, OF GLEBURNE, TEXAS.
roca` APPLIANCE.
Application filed August 10, 1925. Serial No. 49,315.
This invention relates to improvements in foot appliances and more particularly to an arch supporter which may be readily and easily inserted within the ordinary shoe.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a foot appliance which is particularly adapted for relieving the weight sustained by the protuberant bone of the heel of the foot so as to insure com-` fort and ease while standing, walking and tho like.
Another important object is to provide a foot appliance of the above mentioned character which is of such construction as to provide a cushion for the os calcis and which will prevent the lowering of the front of the os calcis as well as prevent the heel from inclining outwardly.
A further object is to provide afoot appliance of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, and further well adapted to the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing forming 4a part of this application and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same Figure l is top plan view of the foot appliance embodying my invention with parts broken away.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken approximately online 2-2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a transverse section taken on line 3 3 of Figure l, and
Figure 4 is a similar section taken on line 4 4 of Figure l.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral l designates generally the foot appliance, the same comprising the body portion 2 which is formed preferably of leather and is of such design as to permit the same to be readily inserted within an ordinary shoe. The forward edge of the leather body 2 is curved as illustrated at 3 so as to permit the body of the support to fit directly behind the metatarsal bone of the foot. The intermediate portion of the body 2 is further curved and cut away as is clearly illustrated in Figure 3 to also permit a support to conform to the shape of the arch and as this particular construction is well known in the art, a further detail description thereof is not thought necessary.
The heel portion 4 of the body 2 is provided with a circular opening 5 and this opening has its edges beveled as illustrated at 6 so as to provide a pocket for receiving the protuberant bone of the heel which is known as the os calcis.
A relatively thin pad of felt material 7 is cemented or otherwise secured on the upper face of the heel portion of the body 2, it being understood of course that the felt pad is cut to conform to the contour of the heel portion of the body and a similar strip of felt 8 is secured on the bottom face of the heel portion 4. The portion of the upper felt pad 7 which is disposed over the open- 75 ing 5 will engage the protuberant bone of the heel and provide a cushion therefor, the opening 5 permitting the portion of the upper felt pad 7 disposed thereover to be depressed in the manner as shown more clearly in Figure 4. The portion of the upper felt pad which is disposed over the opening is not cemented to the beveled edges of the o ening.
A oot appliance of the-above mentioned character will insure comfort and ease to the users foot while standing, walking or running, and furthermore the lowering of the front of the os calcis will be prevented as well as the outward inclining of the heel. There is the simplicity in the manner in which my improved foot appliance is constructed and it is very inexpensive in its manufacture and furthermore will at all times be positive and efficient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of myjnvention it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is n A foot appliance comprising a leather body, the latter including a heel portion, said heel portion being provided with an opening for receiving the protuberant bone of the heel of a foot, the edge of the opening being beveled outwardly tow-ard the upper face of the heel portionof the leather body, a cnshioning niernber disposed over the opening and Comprising a felt pad which is fastened on the upper face of the heel portion of the body, the portion of the pad disposed over 15 the beveled edge of the opening being free with respect thereto, and an additional felt pad fastened to the bottom face of the heel portion.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
CHARLES o. WARNER.
