LINETED HELGA G. NIGI-ITINGALE, OF AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA.
COMBINED miassrnnn AND SLIP.
Application filed April 15, 1925. Serial No. 23,294.
This invention relates to improvements in undergarments for ladies, and is more particularly adapted to a combined brassierc and slip.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide an undergarment of the above mentioned character which is of such a construction to provide a single pair of shoulder straps for both of the undergarments.
Heretofore each of the garments was provided with independent shoulder straps and oftentimes considerable ditliculty was experienced in maintaining the shoulder straps in their proper positions.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide an undergarmcnt which combines a brassicre and a slip together, the same being arranged in such a manner as to carry out the purpose for which the particular undergarments are designed, yet necessitating only a single pair of shoulder straps for both of the garments.
A further object is to provide an undergarment of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong, and durable and further well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a rear elevation.
Figure 2 is a similar view with the waist portion of the slip unfastened, and showing the rear portion of the brassiere, and
Figure 3 is a sectional view through the waist portion of the slip and the brassiere.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved undergarment, the same comprising the slip 2, and the brassiere designated generally by the numeral 3. The slip 2 is of the usual construction, and includes the waist portion 4 and the skirt portion 5. The back of the waistportion of the slip is slit vertically and the free edge portions of the slit are provided with the usual cooperating fastening means illustrated at 6 for fastening the waist portion of the slip when the garment is worn.
The brassiere 3 is stitched along its upper edge to the upper portion of the waist 4 of the slip 2, on the inner. side thereof as illustrated at '7, it being understood of course that the upper edge of the waist portion of the slip is turned over the upper edge of the material forming the brassiere 3 and stitched thereto as clearly illustrated in Fig,- ure 3 of the drawing. The overturned upper edge of the waist portion l of the slip 2 is designated at 8.
The stitching 7 terminates at a point adjacent the free end of the brassiere at the back of the garment as clearly illustrated in Figure 2 so that the adjacent free edges of the brassiere may be fastened together by the usual fastening means indicated at 9 independently of the fastening of the waist portion of the slip, and as is obvious from the construction illustrated in Figure 2, the termination of the stitching 7 at the point indicated permits the ready and easy access to the fastening means associated with the back of the brassiere.
A pair of shoulder straps 10 are stitched, or otherwise secured at their respective ends to the upper edge of the waist portion 4: of the slip 2 at the front and back respectively. The single pair of shoulder straps 10 will suffice for both the slip and the brassiere by reason of the fact that the upper edge of the brassiere is stitched to the upper edge of the waist portion of the slip. This will enable the brassiere to be maintained in proper position on the body of the wearer without having to employ any additional shoulder straps for the brassiere. The provision of a combined brassiere and slip of the above mentioned character will enable the under garment to be worn comfortably, and furthermore considerable time and labor will be saved in putting on or removing the garment.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the spirit and scope of the invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is t- A combination undergarment comprising a slip including a waist and a skirt portion, the waist portion being slit vertically at the back, cooperatinggfastening;meanssassociated Witlrthe free ends of the waistportion, a brassiere stitched along its upper edge-to the upper portiom 0:151: thee WEIlStIOifi; theitslip on the inner side thereof, the upper edge of free-eendmi the brassiere terminating: at a point inwardlyof the other endof-the Waist portiolrof the slip, so that the free ends of ther-slipiaml therbrassiere;respectively are out of alignment With each other, fastening the Waist portion of the slipbei ngrtuarnzedl meamsnassooiated with the free ends of the over the upper edge of the brassiere and stitched thereto, the stitch i-irg for-the upper edge of the brassiere terminating at a point a'dj eoen-t' the free-"ends of the brsissi-re and adj ecent the"freeends of: the; Waist portion of-the slip,- ,one' of .th"e freeends-of th'erbras sire extending beyond the adj acent free end of the: Waist portion of the slip;- the other" brassire, and a single pair of shoulder straps at-taehediatttheir respective ends to the upper edge of the waist portion of the slip at" the fro-ntand back" thereof respectiVely;
