Description

nav-1D T. eHQAT, oF' eEDAR FALL-s, IOWA.
IMPRVEMENT In FLouR-BoLTs.
Speeiliezttiou forming part'of Letters Patent No. 158,626, dated January 12, 1875; application led December 10, 1874.
To all whom yt may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID T. CHOAT, of Cedar Falls, county of Black Hawk and State ot' Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in. Flour-Bolts, of which the following is Va specification: Y
lhe nature of myinvention consists iu an air tube or trunk placed longitudinally beneath a revolving boltingreel upon slotted curved girders, and having Ya slot along its upper side, and connected at one end to the mouth otl a blast-fan, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable. others skilled in theAart to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, l will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part ot' this specification, and in which- Figure l isV a side elevation ot' a llour-bolt embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section oi' the same, and .hig. is a crosssection ot' the air-tube. Fig. l is an end View, showing the curved girders (l.
A represents a flour-bolt, constructed in anyr ot the known and usual ways, and revolving in a frame, l'l. Underneath the bolt A is placed an air tube or trunk, C, ruiming longitudinally with the bolt, and connected at one end by a tlcxible pipe, l), with a blast-fan, E.
'lhis l'an may be run by the same power that revolves the bolt by means ot' suitable belt and pulleys.
0n the upper side ot' the tube or trunk C is a longitudinal slot, a, and across said slot,
through the sides of the tube, are passed 'screws b b at suitable intervals, for the pur- :pose of' contracting and enlarging` the slot at will, to cont act or enlarge the current ot' air, as may seem desirable. lhe tube C is at each end supported upon curved girders G Gr, upon which the air-tube is adjustable, so as to enable the operator to adapt it tothe varying circumstances many mills -arefsubieet to namely, a faster or slower motion ot' the bolts.
By this device a current et' air is directed against the under sideot the cloth of the ilourholt, whereby a twofold advantage is gained.l The fuzz and scuri', being ot' the lightest specilie gravity ot' all the component parts of thel wheat, are raised up oli'the lower inside surthce ot' the bolt, thus preventing the descending meal fro'ih falling upon them and tbrcing them through the meshes ot' the cloth, and thereby rellnleringvthe tlour a dark color. ly/briii f j,'iilg a current ot' cold dry air in cont/act with the. new-made ilour, a dryer and/eonsequently stronger article is produced Having thus lully described my invention, what l claim as new, land desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a revolving llourbolt, ol` the air tube or trunk U, having adjustable aperture a, and adjustable upon the gir-ders (i (l, the ilexible pipe ll, and fan ll, all substantially as andi'or the purposes here in set l'orth.
lu testimony that l. claim the fbregoing as my invention I hereunto atlix my signature this 24th day ot November, 1874.
