This invention relates to a display carton and package and more particularly to a package provided by a carton or container and an article contained therein; and has 6 special reference to the provision of a package of this nature in which the article is packaged to effectuate its preservation during marketing thereof, the package yielding an attractive display for purposes of 1,0 sale and affording the necessary inspection for purposes of purchase.

A prime desideratum of my present invention relates to the packaging and marketing of articles such as garment Suspenders so that the desired properties of the Suspenders may be retained or preserved during` the marketing thereof, the article being packed so as to afford an attractive display for purposes of sale, the package permitting close examination or inspection of the style and quality of the Suspenders prior to purchase. ln prior methods of marketing garment Suspenders the Suspenders, Whether sold loose or in cartons, Were subjected at the time of purchase to undersirable influences resulting` from handling the same. When an assortment of suspend-ers were presented to .a prospective purchaser for his selection of style and quality the handling of the loose article by the purchaser, Who desired to examine and test their efficiency, resulted not only `in soiling the article but in reducing the life' of the same, exposing the Suspenders to air, light and moisture and subjecting the .same to the continual stretchingincident to testing the quality of the rubber, being factors in hastening the deterioration and reducing the life of the article. Where the article was sold in packaged form, removal of the Suspenders from its container was necessary Wherever a close inspection as to the make up77 ofthe suspenders and nature of the materials used therein was desired by the customer, removal of the article subjecting it to the same undesirable influences resulting` from handling. Such handling not only affected the life of the article, exposure and stretching of the same rendering the same unfit for ei'ective 00 subsequent display or sale, but .such handling necessitated an undue consumption of timeon the part of the distributor or retailer in unpacking the article for presentation sale and in replacing or repacking 1921. the articles discarded by the purchaser, as Well as the article selected or purchased by him. lt has therefore been found desirable to provide a suspender package in which the article and the distinctive portions thereof should be effectively displayed for purposes of sale, the article being subject to close scrutiny and examination as regards its style and quality Without the necessity of removing the suspenders from the carton provided therefor, the article being capable of all the necessary inspection during marketing Without breaking the package or affecting the identit-y thereof, preservation of the characteristics of the article not only being effectuated in this manner, but the undue time Wastage incident to packing and repacking of the article by the distributor or retailer being effectively eliminated.

The principal objects of my present invention therefore include, besides the provision of a display package having the characteristics and yielding the results above enumerated, th-e provision of a package in which the essential distinctive elements of the article, such as a pair of garment suspenders, are attractively presented to vieivi; the further provision of a package in Which the distinctive elements may be separately eX- amined Without affecting the integrity of the package and the provision of a package in which th-e article is packed in a manner to permit the desired display and to permit removal of parts of the article for purposes of close examination Without disturbing the identity of the package and the provision of such apackage in Which the cost of packaging is a negligible quantity.

To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, my invention consists in the elements and their relation one to the other., as hereinafter particularly described and sought to be defined in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which show a preferred embodiment of my invention and in which:

Referring` to the drawings, the package comprises a carton or container and an article such as a pair of garment Suspenders enclosed by the container', the container being provided with a front wall 10, a rear wall 11, opposed side walls 12 and 13 and opposite end walls 14a and 15, either or both olf the said end walls 1l and 15 being adapted to be opened for insertion or removal of the article, the embodiment shown in the drawings contemplating bot-h end walls 14C and 15 as'adapted to be opened or closed. The front wall 10 oi the carton is provided with cut out portions spaced longitudinally of the carton, the cut out portions defining display openings or windows and 17 respectively. The windows 1l@ and 1T are intended Ier purposes ot displaying the distinctive elements or features of the article enclosed by the carton, whic i, in the present form of my invent-ion, comprises a pair oit garment suspenders, the windows 16 and 17 being preferably open to permit the close examination and inspection of style and quality oi the Suspenders in a manner as will appear presently.

The blank may also be provided with a plurality of opposed flaps 12 and 13 adapted to be bent and inserted beneath the end laps 14rand 15 in the setting up of the inished carton construction. The front wall 10 ot the blank is eut out to pro-vide the longitudinally spaced openings 16 and '17 hereinbe'liore referred to7 lhe ledge portions Q8 and 24 and the interi'uediate web portion 25, as described in detail above.

The manner ot packaging the garment suspenders and the manner of handling the package during marketing thereof will, in the main, be apparent from the above detailed description thereof. The suspenders are preferably coiled or folded in a manner as shown in Figure 2 to provide for a freely movable flexible front lap or loop including the main distinctive elenients or features of the Suspenders, these elements being capable of attractive display by the provision of the carton 10 and its spaced display Wiu- (lows 1b and 17, the distinctive elements oit the suspenders being capable of independent handling without exposure and soiling the entire article and Without stretching or distorting the same and Without affecting its lolded or looped formation, the identity of the package as a Whole being retained and preserved during all conditions incident to the marketing of the product.

While I have shown my device in the preferred form, it Will be obvious that Inany changes and inodilications may be made in the structure disclosed without departing `from the spirit oit the invention, deh'ued in the following claims.

I claim:

1. A suspender package comprising a carton or container' provided with a plurality oil spaced display Windows, top and botto-1n ledges and an intermediate transverse web, a garment suspender packaged by the container, the suspender being coiled or folded upon itself with the buckle adjacent an end told, the latter being retained in position by one ledge or removable therefrom through one Window to display the buckle portion of the suspender and the other ledge and web retaining the remainder ol the suspender in position.

2. A suspender package comprising a carton or container provided With a plurality or" spaced display Windows, top and bottom ledges and an intermediate transverse Web, a garment suspender packaged by the container, the suspender being coiled or folded upon itseltl with the buckle adjacent an end fold, the latter' being retained in position by one ledge and the other ledge and web retaining the cast off and .straps in position, the latter being removable from beneath the ledge through the Window for display.
