SHIPPLNG CASE.
application mea 'Anglia 7, 1924. seriaI No. 730,768.
` 'This invention relates to a paper or straw tion thereof. This application is a continuation in part of my pending application Serial No. 605,301, filed December 6, 1922.
The chief object of the invention is to construct a paper or straw board box for canned goods and the like in an improved manner, such that the portions subjected to the greatest strain and wear in its-use will be reenforccd and that the box may be constructed of but a few parts with a minimum of waste material.
The chief feature of the invention conbox of butthree parts in such a. manner that the several parts cooperate with each other so as to provide a strengthened construction as Well as an economical Aconstruction.
The full nature of this invention will be understood from theaccompanying drawings and the following description and claim. In the drawings: Fig. l is a' perspective view of a box einbodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the main box blank.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the box. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the end o-f the box and is taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1, and in the direction of the arrows. Fig., 5 is a perspective view of the sealed case, sealed in the way that I prefer.
and 11 the side portions of the box, while l2 indicates the top flap portions. As shown clearly in Fig. 2, the top flaps, sides and the botto-m are formed from an integral sheet of sists in constructing a paper or straw board In the. drawings 10 indicates the bottomv There are also provided two end members, the end forming portion being indicated by the numeral 15 and the top flap portion being indicated by the numeral 16. As shown clearly in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the Inain box blank is folded into trough-like shape and the end strips are turned at right angles to the sides and bottom and therefore inwardly towards each other. The end blanks are -positioned within the trouglI-like blank in abuttable relation to the end strips 13 and f' v14 to which they are secured by the staples 17, or by any other suitable means. In this fashion it will be noted that the corners of the box include an integral edge in each instance and that the ends of the box are protected by the retaining strip, thereby greatly increasing the strength of the box. In particular, when the box -is used with canned goods the end piece 15 spaces the ends of the cans from the crease between the strip'14and bottom 10 so that the can ends cannot reach the crease.
I prefer to seal this shipping case by wire stitching as shown in Fig. 5. The method by which the wire stitching may be done is described and claimed in my Patent No.
1,452,588 dated April 24, 19,23, butit is obvious that the ease might be seale'd in other wa s.
What I claim is: A paper or straw board box comprising a main body blank providing a box bottoni,
y two sides, two top flaps, said top fla-ps being arranged to fold towards each other over the top of the box so their edges will meet each other, and end securing strips folded over each end of each side and each end of the bottom, a pair of end blanks each providing a top flap so positioned as to fold over the t-o-p of the box soas to lie ladjacent the under Surface of the topflaps, and mea-ns for rigidly` securing said end blanks to said end securing strips, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.- A 1 HERBERT R. BLISS.
