A a. HODALY TOILET ARTICLE Filed April 4, 1925 WITNESSES l4 XNVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented May 18, 1926.
UNITED STATES 'EMERIK HODALY, or msrma'rroiv, ARIZONA.
'rornnr ARTICLE.
Application filed April 4, 1925. Serial No. 20,841.
.My invention relates to improvements in toilet articles and contemplates the provision of a unitary articlewhich combines a mirror and a pocket comb case together with means for separately associating the comb case and the mirror together.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a toilet article of the character described which can be carried conveniently and easily in the pocket of a garment or in a like place, is convenient to use, and is thoroughly practical commercially.
A still further object of the invention is the provision in a toilet article of the character described of a novel and reliable device for releasably securing the mirror and the comb case together.
Other objects and advantages ofthe invention will be apparent from the following description, considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a toilet article embodying the invention, illustrating a novel clip for separably connecting the mirror and the comb case,
Figure 2 is a rear view of the structure exhibited in Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the clip that is shown in Figures 1 and 2.
In the form of the device exhibited in the drawing, the backing plate of the mirror 1 is designated 7 b and is formed with the rim flange 3 in which the reflector 4 is mounted. The comb case 8 is releasably clamped against the rear face of the backing plate by means of a spring clip which is best seen in Figure 3. This spring clip may be formed of spring wire and comprises a pair of spaced parallel elongated body portions 12, each of which is merged at each of its opposite ends into one of the arms of a laterally turned substantially U-shaped clamping portion 13, the arms of each clamping portion lying in a plane which extends at right angles to the plane of the body portions 12. The other arms of the U-shaped clamping portions 13 at corresponding ends of the body portions 12 are connected by a substantially V-shaped connecting and clamp ing portion 14 which lies in a plane parallel to the plane of the body portions 12 and has the apex thereof positioned beyond the adjacent ends of the body portions 12. The clip just described is used in the manner shown in Figures 1 and 2 to releasably hold the comb case 8 against the rear face of the backing plate 7 the body portions 12 and the adjacent arms of U-shaped clamping portions 13 being in contact with the outer face of the comb case while the bends of the U-sha pe'd clamping portions 13 embrace edge portions of the comb case 8 and of the mirror 1 and the other arm of the U-shaped clampmg portions 13 press against the front port1on of the rim flange 3 of the mirror frame, the connecting portions 14 thus being disposed close to the end portions of the reflector but not necessarily in contact with the latter. It will be observed that the portions of the clip which are disposed in front of the mirror when the clip is employed to secure the comb case to the mirror do not interfere' appreciably with the use of practically the entire surface of the mirror as a reflector.
In the form of the device illustrated in the drawings and described in the foregoing, separation of the comb case and the mirror from each other can be readily accomplished when desired, while at the same time the comb case will be securely held in place on the back of the mirror'frame when it is desired to carry the comb case and the mirror as a unit. The means that the invention provides for securing the comb case to the mirror does not interfere with the use of the mirror in the manner of an ordinary small mirror nor is there any interference with the removal of the comb from the comb case for use or the replacement of the comb in the comb case.
Obviously my invention is susceptible of embodiment in forms other than these herein described and I therefore consider as my own all such modifications and adaptations of the forms of the device herein described as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A toilet article comprising a mirror, a comb case, a spring clip for releasably supporting said comb case on said mirror, said clip comprising a pair of elongated parallel body portions having laterally turned outwardly directed substantially U shaped clamping portions at their ends, the arms of said U-shaped clamping portions lying in planes extending at right angles to the plane of said body portions, and angular connecting and clamping portions connecting the.
adjacent ends of the outer arms of said U- shaped clamping portions.
2. A toilet article comprising a mirror, a comb case, a spring clip for releasably supporting said comb case on said mirror, said clip comprising a pair of elongated parallel body portions having laterally turned outwardly directed substantially U-shaped clamping portions at their ends, the arms of said U-shaped clamping portions lying in planes extending at right angles to the plane of said body portions, angular connecting and clamping portions connecting the adjacent ends of the outer arms of said U-shaped clamping portions, said angular connecting portions extending beyond the adjacent ends of said body portions, said body portions and the adjacent arms of said U-shaped clamping portions being adapted to contact the outer face of the comb case, the bends of the U-shaped clamping portions being adapted to embrace edge portions of the comb case and of the mirror, and the remaining arms of the U-shaped clamping portions and the angular connecting portions being disposed at the front of said mirror adjacent to opposite ends of the latter.
