Description

May 11 1926.
E. TROST HOT AIR BATH Filed Dec. 27, 1924 Patented May 11, 1926.
attain EDMUND TRUST, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
I HOT-AIR BATH.
Application filed December 27, 1924.
This invention refers broadly to hot air baths or devices for the treatment of the human body with hot air or similar fluids, and it refers in particular to devices of this kind adapted for the treatment of the head, and it is one of the important objects of this invention to produce a very thorough circulation of the air which is heated by any suitable heating means provided in the interior thereof, such circulation being etfected by an electric tan or the like which is likewise mounted in the frame or casing of the apparatus; and in further pursuance ot my invention I provide means of directing the heated air or the like upon the head of the person to be treated by the aid oi": preterably hood shaped means or cowl forming a part of the apparatus.
The invention will be more fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing, showing by way of example an embodiment of the invention in elevation.
The apparatus comprises a capsule or casing 2 mounted on a suitable suspension device 1, and provided at its bottom portion with an exchangeable extension or annulus 3 carrying a piece of cloth or fabric which may be tied or otherwise arranged so as to constitute a hood or kind of cowl, and which is provided with one or more venting apertures 5 for the escape of the air. In the easing or capsule a fan or ventilator 8 operated by electric means, for instance by an electric motor 7, and, for instance, two heating bodies 9 are arranged. The nature and shape of these heating bodies may be of any desired description. Instead of two heating bodies I may, for instance, employ only one heating body. F or the purpose of regulation or the heat electric means may be provided which may be manipulated by means of a cord or by an electric conduit 6 secured thereto and extending to the outside. By this means the heating of the device may be controlled and regulated in any desired manner by the person undergoing the heat treatment or may be entirely dispensed with. The cloth 4 may be made of any desired material, such as, for instance, wool, silk, rubber and the like.
The apparatus may be suspended from the ceiling, as shown in the drawing; or it Serial No. 758,445.
may be mounted 011 a bracket and suspended from a suitable support, or from a holder, hook or the like, or mounted in any other convenient manner.
The mode of operation of the device is substantially as follows Upon operating the tan or ventilator it will induce a current of air into the interior of the apparatus, the air being heated by the electric resistance. Inasmuch as the substantially hood-shaped casing 2 is closed at one end, the air can only enter through the apertures 5 and is circulated within the en closures 2 and l by the vanes 8 and is thereby directed onto the part to be treated which is thus thoroughly bathed with the heated air. The amount of heat and the capacity of the heating resistance may be regulated by a press button or the like connected to the resistance or the conductor 6 to suit the person to be treated. Inasmuch as the hood is closed to the outside the hot air can only act upon the head or other parts of the body of the person, and can only escape through the venting apertures 5. The new device is, therefore, easily manipulated by the patient himself and produces a thorough and eiiicient treatment of the hair or the body of the patient. The apparatus may also be employed for the purpose of drying the hair after washing the same, for the treatment of the head with hot fluids, for head shower-baths,
for head sweat baths and for similar kinds of treatment; and it should be understood that the invention is not limited in every respect to the exact particulars and construction and arrangements of parts, since modifications and changes may occur to suit the needs and convenience of the operator and of the patient, and without deviating from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims. The invention is, moreover, obviously not limited to the use of air as a treating fluid.
I claim 1-- 1. In a device of the character described, a substantially hood-shaped casing closed at one end,'electric heating means within the casing and air-circulating means asso ciated therewith, an extension of flexible material at the open end otsaid casing adapted to envelop the part to be treated, an aper tured portion in the Wall of said extension and controlling means for the heating and air-circulating means.
2. In a device of the character described, a casing With one end closed, an electrically operated fan and electric heating means in the casing, a hood of flexible material at the open end of the casing, adapted to envelop the part to be treated, an apertured portion in the Wall of the hood, and 21- depending fleX- l ible electric conduit at the side o1 the hood and connected to the heating means.
