SWINGING-DOOR STOP.
Application filed August 12, 1925i. Serial No. 49,773.

Be it known that I, EDWARD BoBo,a citizen of the United States, and a resident of `Ranger, in the county of Eastland and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ySwinging-Door Stops, of which the followingis a specifica tion.
This invention relates to a door prop.
Y The purpose ofthe invention is to p-rovide a door prop which is inexpensive to manu` facture and adapted to be applied to doors which at times it is desired to maintain in open position such 'as hinged doors used on a garage or the like.
It is also within the scope of the objects of the invention to provide a door prop which can be easily manipulated and which will maintain itself in an unobstructing position when not in use.
Other objects relating to details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts will hereinafter appear.
The invention is illustrated by way 'of example in the accompanying drawings, in which ;-y n n Figure 1 isa partial perspective view of a garage and showing my invention applied,

Referring to the drawings more particularly in Figure 1, 10 indicates generally a garage structure and 11 a pair of doors therefor which are hinged to swing to open position as illustrated. I have illustrated a prop of my invention applied tov each door 11.
Each prop includes a channel clip generally designated by the reference character 12. The clip may have its side flanges 13 rounded as shown, andits bridge portion secured to the inner side of a doorV by screws 15 or other suitable means. Between the side flanges 13 there is pivoted the one end of a pipe or Vbar 16, said pipe having its pivoted end flattened as shown, and' said flattened end being provided with a suitable opening for receiving the pivot bolt 17 vwhich is extendedthrough suitable openings in flanges 13 and is removably held in posi-l tion by a'nut 18. The free end of the pipe or bar 16 is provided with a flattened and pointed end portion 31 and upon said portion 2 preferably secured by rivets or the like an L-shaped member 32; The member 32 serves as a weight for the free end of the bar or pipe 1 In the use of the present' invention the bar or pipe 16 is swung downwardly as shown in Figure 1, when itis desired to maintain the associated door in open posiy tion. The weight of the bar combined with tension of springl 26 causes the vfree and pointed end of the bar to penetrate 'the ground and provide a solid and strong prop for holding the door against closing. It will benoted with the bar 16 in lowered position that the spring portion 28 engages the forward edge of opening 25 and thus causes pressure to swing the bar ina downward direction. "When the bar 16 is ymanually swung upwardly a certain degree the spring portion 28 will engage the rear edge of opening 25 and then cause a pressure for swinging the bar or pipe 16 upwardly and thus hold the same in an elevated and unobstructing position as also illustrated in Figsecured to a door in a short interval of time and that the same Will serve in a positive manner to maintain a door in an open p0` sition.
I claim:
l. A dool` prop comp-rising a bar having an outer ground engaging end, means for pivotally mounting the inner end of the bar on a door, said bar having an extension provided With a slot located inwardly of the pivotal point of the bar, a springhaving one vend secured to the pivotal mounting and the other end thereof received in the slot, the Spring intermediate the ends thereof heing bent and provided with a tensioning coil, the Spring exerting pressure on the extension of the bar and tending to move the free en-d of the loar to a raised or lowered position, the bent spring and tensioning` coil increasing thepressure on the inner end of the bar.
2. A door prop comprising a bar, a channel clip adapted to be secured to a door, means for pivoting one end of the bar between -the side portions of the clip, the opposite end of the bar being provided With a ground engaging end, the bar at one side of v the pivotal point loeing provided With an extension, 'said eiten'sion having a slot, a U-shaped spring having its legs rigidly vsecured to the clip, the :tree end of the spring being located in the slot at one side of the pivot point of the bar7 the legs of the spring being bent intermediate their ends and provided With a tensioning coil, the `free end of y the spring exerting a pressure on the eXtension o1 the bar for maintaining the free end of the bar .either in a lowered or raised position, the ben-t legs and tensioning` coils increasing the pressure of spring on the inner end of the bar. 4
