A, P. VANDREY DOOR HOLDER y wm unirse stares PtTENT Gilifit.
.ADOLPH ".i?. VANDREY, OF IJANKATQ, IVINNESOTA.
DGOB HOLDER.
Application iletl May12, 1925. Serial No. 29,748.
y To all fro/'ioni it' may concern:
Be it known that l, Anonrir P. VANDnin,
a citizen ot the `United States, residing at Mankato, in the county ci Blue Earth, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holding devices, and particularly to devices tor holding doors in open position.
One object of the invention is to provide a door holder which is simple in construe tion, cheap to manufacture, and eective in use.
Another object is to provide a device oi thischaracter which is automatic in its operation to engage and hold a door in open position, and whichk is readily actuated, manually, to be released from the door.
Another object is to provide a novel and simple means for releasing the door engaging detent, whereby the number of parts isv limited to a minimum.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with'the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: Y
Figure 1 is a perspective view o'`Y the door holding device in operation.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal central sectional View through the device.
Referring 'particularly to the accompanying drawing, representsa 'fragment -o'tl the upper portion of a door, and 11 a portion or a wall, in connection with which the present invention is particularly adapted tor'use.
An angular U-'shaped member 12 is pro vided withthe opposite laterally7 turned feet 13, on the legs thereohand said legs are secured to the tace of the wall 11 by means of the screws 14e. The U-sliaped portion of this member 12 extends at right angles from the tace of the wall, and at a sutiicientheight to permit the upper edge of the door 10 to eas ilypass thereunder, when said door is in open position and adjacent said wall. Disposed transversely through the legs of the member l2, adjacent the bight of said member is a pivot pin 15, and pivotally supported 55 on this pin, and extending inwardly in the direction ot the wall 11, is an angular U- shaped member 16, the bight portion of which is provided wit a central dpening 1'?. This member 16 is adapted to swing down 60 wardly, below the lower edges oit the legs of the member 12, to a sutiicient distance to be engaged and raised by the upper edge ot the door, when said door is moved under the member 12, said member 16 then swinging 65 downwardly to engage with the outer :tace ot the upper portion ot the door, as clearly seen in Figure 1, ot the drawing. l e
Extending transversely through the inner portions of the legs of the member 12, is
a pivot pin 18, and mounted on this pin, for
rocking movement, is a member 19, the. end adyacent the member lbeing reduced and disposed in an opening 20, formed in the bight portion of the said member 16. To '75 the other end ot the pivoted member 19 there is secured the'upper end oi a cord or wire 2l, said wire depending in close proximity to the wall 11, within convenient reach to be pulled for the purpose of rocking the niem- S0 ber 19, to transmit such movement to the member 1G, whereby to raise the latter member above the edge of the dooi, and permit the door to be swung into closed position.
ii/'hat isI claimed is: 85 1. i door holder comprising a' bracket having attaching feet, a yoke pivotally mounted in tie bracket and normally gravitating below the bracket tor engagement by a door, the yoke having an opening, a iockable member pivotally supported by the braclretrand having a reduced end engaged operatively in the opening oit said pivoted yoke, and operating means carried by the other end of the rockable ,memberwhereby to move the yoke out of engagement with a door.
2. A door holder comprising a vyokeshaped bracket having` laterally extending attaching feet, a yoke pivotally mounted in the bracket adjacent the big'ht thereof and normally gravitating below the bracket for engagement by a door, the bight of the pvoted yoke having an opening, a rooliable member pivotallyv supported by the arms of the bracket inWardl),v of the pivoted yoke and having a reduced end engaged operativel;7 in the opening of Said member, and operating means carried by the other cnd ot' the rockable member Whereb)v to move thc 10 yoke out of engagement with a door.
In testi1nonv whereof, I alix my .Qignatm-(.
