FASTENING DEVICE.
Application filed March 23, 1925. Serial No. 17,583.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, DAVIS MARINsxY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Bronx, in the count of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification, suchas will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 0
This invention relates to fastening devices and particularly to devices of this class adapted to couple and uncouple two or more parts to retain said parts 1n locked position against accidental displacement when said parts are coupled together, and
the object of the invention is to provide a device of the class speclfied with means extending through the interlocking portions of the separate parts of the device for reinforcing said parts and also for providing means in connection with which the attaching strips of devices of the class speclfied operate to prevent the breaking of the same when the device is in use; a further ob ect being to provide a strand of flexible material for the purpose specified which Wlll increasethe strength of: the attaching device and yet not interfere w th the flexibility thereof; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified which is sim la in construction, efiicient in use and whic is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed. a
The invention shown and described herein is an improvement on that shown and described-in ap lications filed by me J anuary 21, 1925, erial Nos. 3,738 and 3,739 and another a plication filed by me January 22, 1925, erial No. 3,923, and is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters ineeach of the views, and in which:

In Fig. 1 of the drawing I have indicated at 10 and 11 two parts of a garment crapparel of any kind or class, or of any other article or apparatus-t0 be coupled together by a fastenin device. 12 which may be in conventional orm employing interengaging and interlocking link members 13 and 14 of loop or ring formation, said devices being mounted on flexible strands 13 and 14,and the link members are adapted to be moved into and out of engagement by a slidable coupling block 15,and the link members 13 and 14 which are divided into sections,
loops or rings of the link members 13"and 14, as clearly seen in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 of the drawing, and around which the folded and apertured portions 16 and 17 of the strip 16 and 17 are adapted to pass.
In carrying my invention into efi'ect after the link members 13 and 14 have been formed and mounted upon the strands 13 and 14, the strands 18 and 19 are passed through the loops or rings of said link members in the manner seen in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing, after which the attaching strips 16 and 17 are passed over the loops of the separate link, members, said loops.

The strands 18 and 19 may be composed of any suitable flexible material, for example heavy cord or twine, light cable or flexible wire, and may be of any cross sectional form, round or circular form beingpreferred.
By em loying the strands 18 and 19 the link mem rs 13 and 14 are additionally reinforced in their coupling one with the other in the separate series, and further the attaching strips 16 and 17 are reinforced at the apertured, portions 16 and 17 thereof and the breaking or raveling of said aperturedportions of said strip is obviated. The strands 18 and 19 also operate to limit the inward movement ofthe separate link members 13 and 14 and retain the separate sections formed by said link members'in proper spaced relation at all times. It will also be noted, in the construction shown, that the loops of the link members 13 are offset in one direction at their outer end-portions while the loops of the link members 14 are straight, and I am not necessarily limited to this or any other specific shape or form of the link members, or the method of their construction and mounting.

In Fig. 5 of the drawing I have shown a slight modification in which the link members 13 and 14, the link member 13 only be-- ing shown forillustration, are fashionedto form substantially circular recesses 20 in the loop portions of the "link members to re-- ceive the strands 18 and 19, or the strand 18 as shown, this construction will reinforce the loops of the separate link members and will also operate to retain the strands 18 and 19 in proper position at all times. It will be understood that the attaching strips 16 and 17 are also employed in connection with the construction shown in Fig. 5. of the drawing, and that both the link members i 13 and 14 will be of similar construction.

shown and described one method of carrying my invention into effect, that I am not necessarily limited in this respect, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the'spiritof my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device ofthe class described comprising a plurality of link members having loop portions arranged in a-linement, a flexible mounting strand on which said link members are mounted. in abutting relation,

In a fastening device of the class described-employing a plurality of spaced loop members arranged in common axial alinement, a strand of flexible material independent of said loop members and extending therethrough, means independent of said strand for joining the separate loop members and to which said loop members are secured, and means engaging said strand for securing the device to a support.

In a fastening device of the class described employing a plurality of spaced loop members arranged in common axial alinement, a strand of flexible material independ-' ent of said loop members and extending therethrough, means independent'of said strand for joining the separate loop members, and to which said loop members are secured and. an attaching strip through which said loop members are adapted to pass, said strip being folded around said strand.
6. A device of the class described comprising a flexible strand, a plurality of link members secured to said strand and projecting therefrom in spaced arrangement and in common alinement, the projecting portions of said link members being of closed loop formation, a flexible strand passed through the loops of said link members and an at taching stripthrough which the projecting.

A fastening device of the class described comprising two interengaging and interlocking sections, each of said sections being composed of a plurality of link members having projecting loop portions adapted to interlock one with the other of the separate sections in coupling said sections together, strands of flexible material passed through the loop portions of the separate sections, attaching strips on each of said sections for mounting the same in connection with suitable supports, and said strips being foldable around said strands.
10. A device of the class described co1uprising two flexible strands arranged in parallel relation, a plurality of link members mounted on said strands, said link members being secured to one of said strands and attaching means engaging the other of said strands.

12. A device of the class described comprising a plurality of link members, each of said link members consisting of two closed loop portions, flexible strands extending through the separate loop portions of said link members and in substantially parallel relation,one of the loop portions of said link members being compressed onto the strand extending therethrough for securing said link members to said strand, and an attaching strip engaging that part of the other strand positioned between the loops of said link members and the other loop portion of said link members being fashioned to partially encircle the other strand.
