Be it known'that I, HARRY Gama-N APPEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Phila' delphia' and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vehicle Tops, of which the fol'low-' ing is a specification. I
My invention relates to vehicle tops and its objectsare'to provide a top of simple and durable construction which permits" de tachment of a part a'dij ace'nt the front, whereby the comforts and advantages ofanun-f covered vehicle may be obtained without knocking down the' top frame. v, I
These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter,"I attain in the following manner; reference being had to'theaccompanynig drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a top constructed in accordance with my invention,

Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a frame of any suitable construction having top bows 2 and a front bow 3. Side coverings 4 are secured to the frame in any suit-- able manner and preferably extend around the front bow 3 as shown at 5. The inner edges 6 of the side coverings are plain from the rear to a point 7 adjacent the front. The remaining parts of the edges are beaded as shown at 8. The beading of the edges 8 may be made in any suitable manner, preferably by folding the edge around a core 9 and securing the folds by stitching or otherwise as shown at 10 in Figure 5. A top covering 11, secured to the plain edges 6 of the side covering by stitching or otherwise, is detachably secured to the beaded edges and to the front bow 3 of the frame. The detachable connection consists of side flaps 12 and a front flap 13 extending from the top and detachably connected to the side coverings and the front bow 3 by snap fasteners 14. The front flap 13 has its ed e reinforcedby hemming'in a rod 1-5as'sho'w n' 'in Figures. This rod also serves to prevent the detached topfrom sagging when rolled;

While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider'that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A vehicle top including a frame; side coverings secured to the frame; an integral top covering having its rear part secured to the frame and its front part provided with flaps adapted to be detachably secured to the frame, and baflie-like parts between the side coverings and the fiaps to prevent entrance of water.
2. A. vehicle top including a frame; side coverings permanently secured to the frame;
beaded portions on the front parts of the side coverings, and a to covering having its rear part permanent y secured atits edges to the edges of the side coverings and its its front part detachably connected near the beaded edges of the side coverings.
4. A vehicle top including a frame; side coverings permanently secured to the frame and having the rearwardly extending parts of their edges plain; a top covering permanently secured to the plain edges; a core secured to the smaller forwardly extending edges of the side coverings adjacent the front ofthe top to form beaded edges, and means for detachably connecting the top covering to the side coverings adjacent the beaded edges and the front of the frame,
5. A vehicle top including a frame; side coverings secured to the frame; an integral top covering having its rear part secured to the frame and its front part provided with flaps adapted to be detachably secured to the frame over the side coverings and means in the form of baffle-like beading between the side covering and the flaps to prevent entrance of water.
6. A; vehicle top including a frame; side coverings secured to the frame and having baffle-like beading overlying their front parts; a top covering having its rear part secured to the side. coverings; side flaps extending from the front part of the top covering and detachably connected with the side coverings near said heading; and a front flap extending from the front part of the top covering and detachably con nected with the frame.
7. A vehicle top including a frame; side coverings secured to the frame and having plain and headed inner edges; a top covering secured to the plane edges; side flaps extending from the front part of the top covering and detachably connected with the side coverings adjacent the beaded edges, and a front flap extending from the front part of the top covering and detachably connected with the frame.
8. A vehicle top including a frame; side coverings secured to the frame; an integral top covering having its rear part secured to the frame and its front part provided with flaps adapted to be detachably secured to the frame; a rod secured to the front of the top cover on which its detachable part may be rolled, and a receptacle adjacent its fixed part for supporting the detachable part when rolled.
