PUMP I PRESSURE GOVERNOR.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. Sons, a citizen of the United States residing at Humble, in the county of Harris and State of Texas. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Pump Pressure Governor, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in apressure pump governor.
One object of this invention is to produce a governor, adapted to be actuated by the pressure of fluid being pumped, and which in turn governs the operation of the pump so as to maintain a ,substantiallytuniform pressure and consequently a uniform dis charge from the pump.
.Anotherobject of the invention is to provide a governor of the character described which mayberadj'usted, or regulated, so as to readily vary the capacityof thepump- With the above and other objects in view this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of'construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a side elevation of a pump equipped with the type of governor, herein described. I

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 designates a slush pump having a suction line 2 and a discharge line 3.
The pump is driven in the usual way from the motor 4 through the drive belt 5. The motor shown is equipped with the usual throttle for controlling the feed of the motive fluid thereto, said throttle having the usual throttle valve arm 6 through which the conventional throttle yalve may be operated.
The governor includes a cylinder 7, one end of which is connected into the discharge line 3 through the reduced nipple 8. The other end of the cylinder has the plug 9 screwed therein. WVithin the cylinder there is a floating plunger 10 with the oil chainber 11 between it at the end plug. This chamber is normally filled, with oil which may be introduced through the inlet pipe 12 which is normally closed by the plug 13. Interposed between the plunger and the plug 9 there is a strong coilspring 14 and a pressure gauge 15, of conventional construction, is connected into the chamber 11.
The upperend of the cylinder, carries a bracket 16 fulcrumed on which there is a bell crank lever 17, one arm of which is connected with the throttle valve arm '6, through the rigid rod 18.
F ulcrumed on the free end of the other arm of the lever 17 there is an adjusting lever 18, and the adjusting bolt 19 fits,loo se- .70 1y through one end of the adjusting lever with its lower end enlarged and resting on the lever 17 and its upper end threaded to receive the nut 20. A coil spring 19 surrounds thebolt 19 and isinterposed between the enlarged lower end thereof/and the ad jacent end of the lever 18. Theiothe'r end of the lever 18 rests on "the reduced, upper end 21 ofthe plunger 22;which works in a cylindrical axial bearing through the plug 9. Pressure in .the line will operate through the nipple 8 and against the plunger 10 and when a predetermlned pressure is exceeded the fluid in the chamber 11 will operate through the plunger 22 to actuate the levers 18 and 17, and through the rod 18 will influence the throttle valve and thereby reduce the engine speed which will in turn reduce the pump pressure. Thereupon the plunger 10, acting under the influence of the spring 14, will move back and the partial vacuum created in the chamber 11 will cause the normal air pressure to release the pressure of the plunger 22 against the lever 18,
and the throttle will be again opened through the pull of the spring 23.
The pressure required to operate the governor may be varied by adjusting the plug 9 so as to vary the capacity of the chamber 11, and the range of influence of the gover- 1 nor on the throttle may be varied by adjusting the spring 19'.
What I claim is 2- 1. A overnor including a cylinder one end of w ich is adapted to be connected into a fluid pressure line, a pair of plungers therein spaced apart to form a fluid chamber between them, an actuating lever fulcrumed on the other end of said cylinder, one of said plungers being disposed to be operated by pressure from said line and the other being disposed to actuate said lever.
2. A governor including a cylinder, an actuating lever associated with the cylinder at one end, a plunger mounted in the cylinder and adapted to actuate said lever, a movable septum in the cylinder forming a fluid chamber between it and said plunger, a pressure fluid inlet connected into the other end of the cylinder.
3. A governor including a cylinder, an actuating lever associated with the cylinder at one end, a plunger mounted in the cylinder and adapted to actuate said lever, a floating plunger in the cylinder forming a fluid chamber between said plungers, a pressure fluid inlet connected into the other end of the cylinder and a yieldable seat in said chamber against which the floating plunger is seated.
A. A governor including a cylinder, a pivotally mounted actuating lever associated therewith, a plunger in the cylinder adapted to actuate said lever, a pressure fluid inlet entering the cylinder, a movable septum in the cylinder and which is spaced from the plunger and which is arranged between it and said inlet, thus forming a chamber between said septum and plunger.
5. A governor including a cylinder, a pivotally mounted actuating lever associated therewith, a plunger in the cylinder adapted to actuate said lever, a pressure fluid inlet entering the cylinder, a floating plunger in the cylinder forming a movable septum which is spaced from the first named plunger and which is arranged between it and said inlet, thus forming a chamber between said plungers and a pressure gauge connected into said chamber.
6. A governor including a cylinder, a pivotally mounted actuating lever associated therewith, a plunger in the cylinder adapted to actuate said lever, a pressure fluid inlet entering the cylinder, a floating plunger in the cylinder forming a movable septum which is spaced from the first named plunger and which is arranged between it and said inlet, thus forming a chamber between said plungers and a yieldable seat between the plungers against which the floating plunger is seated.
7. A governor including a cylinder, a pivotally mounted actuating lever associated therewith, a plunger in the cylinder adapted to actuate said lever, a pressure fluid inlet entering the cylinder, a floating plunger in the cylinder, forming a movable septum which is spaced from the first named plunger and which is arranged between it and said inlet, thus forming a chamber between said plungers, a pressure gauge connected into said chamber, and a yieldable seat in said chamber against which the floating plunger is seated.
