PATENT or'F cE.
VISE-POST LOCK. V I
'- Application filed December 27,1924. Serial No. 758,480.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I. ARTHUR A. Koorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albert Lea, int-he county of Freeborn and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vise-Post Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others sl 'lled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to fastening means for a post which is utilized as a support for a vise. the fastening means also operatlng to forcibly separate the post sections and to lock the same in the adjustedposition when the post is properly positioned to suppoit the vise in working position.
Other objects and advantages will-be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
lVhile the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions'and requirements, various changes in the fornn proportion and-minor details of construction may be, resorted towithout departing from the nature of the invention. Referring-to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification, Figure 1 is'a'front view of a vise-post lock embodying the invention showing the same applied, and
Figure 2 isa detail sectional view on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in both views of the drawings by like reference characters. The numerals 10 and 11 designate the sections of the vise post, said sections having between the uprights 17 said plate having" held from rotation: on a an opening-19 to receive the post section 10 and said opening being of a larger diameter than the diameter of the postsection 10 so that when the plate is elevated at oneend the post section 10 will be firmly gripped between diagonally opposite portions "of the plate bordering upon the opening 19 as in;
dicated most clearly in Figure 2 with the result that the section 10 is elevated and its upper end caused to firmly engage the ceiling or other overhead support. It will also be apparent that the post grip 13 is engaged,
and prevented from'turning, by thespaced.
The operating lever 1th is'mounted upon a stud 20 projecting laterally from'an enlarge- 1 ment at the upper end of the sleeve 12 and its active end is provided with a cam '21 which engages the post grip 1S and elevates the adjacent end thereof, and this cam 21" has a terminal upstanding portion22 forming a stop which engages an edge of the post grip 13' and limits the movement of the lever when the post grip is elevated The stop 22 prevents overthrowing of the lever 1 1 when passing the dead center in the lifting of the post grip 13, thereby holding the lock in the required adjusted position.
\Vhat is claimed is 1. A vise post operatingand locking means, the same comprising a sleeve adapted to be fitted to a section of the post, a post grip and an operating can'i-lever mounted upon said sleeve on a transverse axis and adapted to coact with the post grip, said lever having a stop to engagethe post grip and prevent OVBllZl'llOWlDP .of the level when operatingthe post grip,
' 2. vise post device comprising post sections in telescopic relation, a sleeve attachable to one end'of one of said sections.
a cam lever secured to said'sleeve on a trans 1 verse axis, a grip membersurrounding the other post sectlon and engageableyby said lever for tllting to grip the latter poct sec- ,ti'on, and means integral with and rising from the sleeve to guide the post grip and -maintain it against turning on a vertical axis. I I Y, I. v
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
