whichthe following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in automaticdado, equalizer and variety woodworking machines whereby straight 'and bevel cuts in all combinations are made by automatically moving cutters. Y

1924,` Serial No. 716,059, of which the pres ent invention is an improvement. And the `object of this improvement is to provide an automatic dado, equalizer and -variety woodworking machine in which the saw carriages of two fully equipped and adjustable machines are driven by an electric motor ony one machine by means ofa'shaftcommon to both machines and having but Aone universal joint therein. v

Arms 27, 27 are pivoted at their lower ends to frame for vibration and have their upper ends connected to cutter carriage 28. Wheels on the centers of said arms engage with cam slots, not shown, in cylinder 26 and the revolution of said cylinder causes said arms to vibrate and cutter carriage 28 to reciproca-te. Electric motor 29 is mountedon carriage 28 with its shaft parallel with rails 4. On one end of said motor shaft is fastened cutter 30 for revolution therewith. Screw 31 is mounted for revolution in bearings 32 and 33 fastened to the floor parallel with rails 4t. Screw 31 is engaged with nuts L31 on frame 5 and is revolvable by hand wheel (L31. 1 y
Work stop 46 is placed on the front end of tables 6 and 9, being fastened by a pin to table 6 and by a hand clamp to table 9. The work is placed on the tables to bear against the rear side of ystop 4:6 when the cutters shape the same. .lVork-holding clampv 17, which kis depressed by a coil spring beneath the head of holding` screw fr", is fastened tot-able 6 and used to hold the left-hand end of the work while the operatives hand is placed on the work near its right-hand end to hold that end down and at the same time cause the work to bear evenly against .stop 46.
The pivotal center of universal joint, 16 is, by construction, placed vertically over the center line of pivot bolt 10, as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and Z3 and also in Fig. 1 where joint 16is broken away in part to show a portion of the upper end of said bolt 10. So that when the pivoted machine is swung on pivot 1() motor 15 revolves about the center of joint 16 and shaft 17 is not disturbed but remains parallel to rails 2l. Also since sprocket 19 is revolvable by shaft 17 and reciprocable on it machine 5, 6 can be moved on rails L1- by screw 31 without interfering` with the transmission-of power from motor 17 to saw carriage 28. Tilting saw motor 4t2 in connection with pivoted machine 8, 9 provides for trimming or plowingthe right-hand end of the work at a combined Y vertical and horizontal angle,
while provision for rectangular work only is made in machine 5, G. This is all that the usual work done by such a combination of machines requires on one end. Although table 6 can be tilted, as described, this adjustment is not used when the two machines operate together.
Having thus disclosed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
1. In machinery of the kind described in combination, va vertically pivoted machine, a transversally movable machine adjacent said pivoted machine adapted to approach and recede from said pivoted machine, a power shaft common to both of said machines, and. a universal coupling in said power shaft oscillatable about the vertical aXis of said pivoted machine.
2. In machinery of the kind describedin combination, a vertically pivoted machine, a transversally movable machine adjacent said pivoted machine, a power shaft common to both of said machines, a universal coupling in said power shaft oscillatable about the vertical axis of said pivoted machine, and an electric motor on one of said machines having power connections with said shaft. p 3.
