Description

Feb. 2 1926.
E; H. PINKHAM HOLDER Fild March 12, 1925 INVENTOR By W ATTORNEY EDWARD H. EINKHAM, OF NORTH ANDOVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
nonnnri.
Application filed March 12, 1925., Serial No. 15,124.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, EDWARD H. PINKI-IAM,
a citizen of the United States, residing at North Andover, in the county of Essex and State of -Massachusetts,' have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates the provision of a container of novel construction, primarily intended for stick shaving soap or the like, and designed to permit a soap to be quickly and conveniently fed from the container 'as desired, andv conveniently refilled when necessary.
The nature and-advantages of the invention will be better understood when the folvlowing detailed description is read 'in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this ap plication, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and there- Figure ,1 is a view in elevation of the contamer forming the subject matter of the invention.
Figure 2 is a. view partly in section showing the manner in which the soap ore/other material is supported and fed to projected position for use.
Figure 3 is a perspective view ofthe stick holder.
Figure e is a perspective view of the follower.
The device forming the subject matter of the present invention comprises a holder for the stick shaving soap or the like and is preferably of the construction shown in .Figure 3. While the holder may be constructed from any suitable material it essentially embodies a tubular portion 10 which is'comparatively short, and relatively movable curved portions 11 which are of a resilient character to allow the stick 12 ofshaving soap or the like to be easily placed within the holder and held therein by the resilient action of the relatively movable portions 11. The holder is formed with a flange 13 at the point of juncture between the tubular portion 10 and the relatively movable portions 11, and the periphery'of this flange is knurled or roughened as at 14 to facilitate the use of the device in the manner hereinafter described; The relative- I ly movable portions 11 of the holder are formed with longitudinal slots 15 and these slots receive the lugs 16 which project from the follower 17 at diametrically opposite points. In other words, the follower is arranged within the holder so that the lugs 16 project through the slots-15 thereof, the bottom'of the stick of shaving soap or the like i 12 reposes upon the follower 17 as shown in liigure. 2. an annular groove 18 immediately beneath The holder is also formed with the flange 13, to provide a swivel connection between the holder and the outer casing or container 19 in which the holder is arranged. This container 19 has its upper edge bent inwardly .to lie within the groove 18 above referred to after the holder has been arranged within the container as shown inFigure 2. The body of the container is corrugated to provide threads indicated at 20, while the outer ends of the lugs 16 are grooved as at 21 in a manner to accommodate said threads so that when the container 19 is turned while the holder is held stationary by the flange 13,- the follower 17 is moved longitudinally of the holder to force the soap or the like a slight distance above the upper end of the holder for use; The follower 17 canof course be moved in either direction within the holder depending upon the direction in which the container 19 is turned. The projected end of the soap is covered by a cap 22 when the device is not in use, which cap is adapted to repose upon the flange 13 as shown in Figure 1. The device is not only simple in construction, and capable of being employed for the purpose intended, but can be easily and conveniently refilled when it is found necessary to do so.
While its believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily appoint of juncture between the tubular portion and the relatively movable portion, and upper end of said container being fitted to said groove, whereby said parts are rotatabl associated, a follower arranged to align within the holder and upon which said stick reposes, and means associating the follower with the threads on the container, whereby the follower is operated incident to the rotation of the container with relation to the holder. p
2. In combination, a container having threads, ashaving stick holder adapted to be received by the container and rotatably associated-therewith, said holder including a tubular-portion projecting beyond one end of the container, and relatively movable reposes, lugs projecting from the follower through said slotsand designed to engage the threads on'the container, whereby said follower is operated incident to'the rotation of the container and a cap adapted to close the tubular portion of the'holder.
In testimony whereof I aflix signature.
EDWARD H. PINKHAM.
