METAL GIBDEB FOB LIGHT METAL STRUCTURES.
l Application mea February 17, 192s. serial Na. classe.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDrUs DoRmER,`
according to my'invention are provided with oppositely `located apertures 'having inwardly directed flanges which may extend so far insidethat they can be connected with each otherby riveting orvvelding.u The apv erture's may have any desired shape.
is', however, preferable to provide apertures of substantially equal shape and diameter.-
The inter-connected flanges of the apertures 'form hollow connecting members, the axis of which extends about at rightangles to the longitudinal axis of the girder.
The connection of the two side walls in the planes of the girths may be effected in any desired manner, for instance, by means of a panel, but it is preferred to provide the side walls in the girth plane with outwardly directed flan es and to connect'these latter with each ot er by a sheet-metal strip. In view of the comparative thinness of the sheet-metal em loyed in the construction of,
aircraft this a ords favorable conditions of assembling and `Warrants a good accessibility of the-rivet seams. The longitudinal edge portions of the side-walls are preferably bent outwards a-t an obtuse angle. The sheet-metal strips are preferably grooved or channelled.,
In the drawings /alxed to this specification and forming part thereof a girder embodying my invention is illustrated by way of example. In the drawing `Figure 1 is a cross section and V8 of sheet-metal, while the top formed' of a sheet-metal channel.
,apertures of said wal Figure 2 a side elevation` Referring to the drawing, the girderconsists of -twoside walls 1 and 2 provided with circular apertures A'having inwardly directed. flanges 3 and 4 which are fastened to each other by rivets 5.V If weldable metal is used', the flanges may be connected with each other by spot` welding. The longitudinal edge portions ofthe walls 1 and 2 are bent outwards forming flanges 6 and the rims 7 of these flanges are again bent in such a manner, that the flange rims 7 disposed on the same side converge as vshown in Figure 1.' A
The lower boom consists of a plain strip boom 9 is y"I wish it to be understood that I do not idesire to lbe limited to the exact details of constructionfshown and described, for obvious modifications,"will occur to a person skilled in the/art'.
I claimpg- 1. A lightsheet metal girder comprising two juxtaposed apertured side walls and inwardly 1 said flanges ing rigidy connected. 2. lightsheet metal irder com rising two uxtaposed aperture Ward y directed flanges surrounding the apertures of said wallsl, said flanges being rigidl connected Jand plate strips riveted to an connecting adjoining free edges of said side walls.
3. A'light sheet metal girder comprising two f'uxtaposed apertured side. walls, inward y directed flanges surrounding the apertures of said walls, said flan es being rigidly connected, ilanges extending substantially at right angles from the longitudinal edges of said side walls and `plate strips riveted to and connecting the latter flanges on adjoining edges. i
4. A light sheet metal irder com rising two juxtaposed aperture side wa ls, inwardly directed flanges surrounding the apertures of said Walls, said flanges being rigidly connected, -obtusely angular flanges exrected llan'gses surrounding) the.
side wa 1s, in-4 tending Substantially at righty angles from the longitudinal edges of said side walls and plate strips riveted to and connecting the latter flanges on adjoining edges.
5. A light sheet metal girder comprising two juxtaposed apertured side Walls and inwardly directed flanges surrounding the apertures of said walls, the flanges ol one side Wall extending in overlapping relation to the-flanges of the other side wall and be-v 10 ing rigidly connected therewith. In testimony whereof I alix my signature.
CLAUDIUS DORN IER.
