C. C. JONES TRUSS FORM SYSTEM Filed March 5. 1924 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 INVENTOR AITORNEV Jan. 19, 1925.
C.C.JONES 'rauss Fogm SYSTEM Filed March 5, 1924 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 65!. fake;
INVENTOR ATTORNEY 1a; c'itiz en of the Unitedl'States,fresiding at; Cha rlesftom-lin' l'thei'fcoiint'yl of Kanawha and State of West Virginia, have invented new and" useful" Improvements in Truss-Form;
Patented Q E S,
Systems, ofwhich tl'le ifOllQWlllg is aspect .means at one end of. the beam 9.
This inventionrelates truss formffor use in supportingceilings, floors'and the like in steel frame buildings, the general obj ect of the invention being to provide means whereby the forms can be easily and qulckly setup, the material used over and over again'andaj clear floor space left ;i'orfthe workmen when the trussis infpositionfto support a concrete mold' or'forrstorage of material 7 V This invention other features of construction" and in; the combination and arrangement of the several" parts, to be hereinafter fully described, il-
lustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended;
claims. it Y In describing-.my invention indetail,
reference willbe hadto the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like 7 or corresponding! parts throughout the] several views, and in Wh c1 a Figure 1v is a sectional view showing the inventioninusa. I 1 7 Figure 2 is a section'fon line 2-2 of Fig re 1. a r Figure 3 is a sectional detailviewof the Figure, 4 is a' of the hangers. I Figure 5 is arview of the means for connecting the cable 15 to the bolt 17.
Figure 6 is a sectional view showing a modification.
perspective view ofone Figure? is a perspective: view of one end of the beam 9 shown in this modification.
As shown in these views, I provide hangers 1 forengagingthe Ibeams 2 of the building, these hangers having hooked ends 3 which form spaces of tapered formation so as to engage the flanges of the I beam and by making them taperedfthe hangerscan be used ondifl'erent sizes of I beams. They are provided with bolt holes 4 so that they can beheld in'placewhile the system is being .erected'and they are also rovided with'the large. holes 5 for,receiv-.
mg the bolts 6 which are adjustably held to u .han ers b ir11emitsg7.' p ,'-are,]='placed on: the; ends'iof fthe beam 1 9 and :Zeachbf'theseiplates has a: hole 1 0, in*'its -horimental flangeifand:anoblong-hole 11 init's inalso consists in jcertain clined partifor: receiving thebolt 6.; The
plates 8 I I plates are each provided with a hole-12 for receiving the member 13 of. the turn-buckle device 14 to whieh'thecable l5fisf-cflonneotedg A- steel frame 16, preferablyfonned of angle iron, is'fa'stenedlat' its upper end to the beam 9' and the cable passesover this frame I and. is looped-- through the eye in a bolt' 17 and then has its end clamped to another part ot-the ,cable by the"'clamp 18f so that the v length fofQthecable can be' adjusted.f The bolt 17 engages a plate '8 at the opposite'e'nd ,ofthebeam 9 which is similar to the plate hanger which is the same as that shown at'l V, or "where thejsystem is used in continuous 5 bays, the hangers between" the bays are lformed asshown at 1 with each extremity bent upwardlyand provided with ra pair of holes 5 .for receiving the bolts 6. These "8. This end of the beam can be attachedtoa I hangers can be fastened tolthe, I beams by.
the clamps 19'.
Where short spans are being constructed, 1'
the system shown in Figure '6 and 7 may be E -j used." In. this case plates 2O are placed in notches formed in the ends of the beams 9 forreceiving the bolts 6 instead of the angle 7 plates shown at'8 in: the first form of theinvention and this system alsoomits'the:
frame wand s, and usesthewooden' I'I1SSeS21,".' r
- 'This, system not only takes the place of shores but it will carry a heavier load than thesystem'using shores and can be quickly erected.- Itiwill also give "aclear floorspace below and the cost oferecting is only-half as much [as-the shore system andv requires one-third less lumber.
It isthought frornthe foregoing desorip- 1 tion that the r-advantages and novel features of my invention willbe readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood thatflI may make changes in the construction andin the 'combination'an'd arrangement of the several 1 parts, provided that such changes'fall with- 1n the scope of the appended claims. I I
What I claim is i 1. A truss system comprising hangers for engaging I beams of a building, some of the no hangers having hooks thereon for engaging the I beams and each'hanger havmg a plurality" of holes therein, bolts pass ng through certain of the holes in the hangers,
nuts for holding the bolts in the hangers,
a beam and plates at the ends of the same having holes therein through which the bolts pass and truss means for the beam, such means consisting of a frame connected with the beam, a cable passing over the frame, members passing through holes in the plates at the ends'of the beam, a turnbuckle arrangement connected with one memher and to which one end of the cable is connected and clamping means for adjustablyconnecting the other end of the cable with the other member after the cable has been passed through an eye in said last men- 25 tioned member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
' CLAUDE "CIRTUS JONES.
