The device comprises an end section 1 p'rovided with ay proJecting foot rest` 2.l Plates 3 are secured to the sides of the section 1 near'to the inner end thereof. The plates 3 have inwardly projecting sockets 4. A shaft 5 is located in the sockets 4. The shaft 5 is held in the, sockets -4.- by set screws 6 threaded into the sockets. The shaft 5 turns at its ends in one end of a main section 7. The end section 1, thus, is hinged to the 'main section 7. In a similar Way, a shaft 8 connects the section 7 with an auxiliary section 10, and a shaft 9 connects the section 10 with' an end section 11. The curtains 28 preferably are painted blue or, in any event, they are so constructed that f a person cannot see through them readily.

The curtains 28 prevent the occupant from looking sidewise and seeing articles, such as chandeliers and the like. which may be swinging in vthe vessel, it being' a mattei' of common knowledge that the sight of swinging objects often will upset a person who, otherwse, would not be subject to seasickness.

When the device is arranged as shown in Figure 3, it may be used as a chair. By pulling back the latches 14 out ot' engagement with the latch wheels 12, the parts 1-7, 7410, and 10-11 may be located at 'anydesired angle with respect t0. each other, se that the structure may assume any position intermediate the chair, as shown in Figure 25, or a bed, as shown in Figure 1. When. the latches 14 are released. they will engage again with the latch wheels l2 under-the action of the springs 18. ln order to provide absolute security, when all of the parts 1 7-10-11 are in. alinexnent,
