ATTACHMENT PLUG.
' Application filed April '17, 192:2.- Serial No. 553,856.
T 0 all whom it may conccrm Be 1t known that I, REUBEN B. BENJAMIN,
' a citizen of the United Statesyresidihg at Chicago, in the -county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachment. Plugs, of
which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming 'a part of this specification.
My invention relates to attachment plugs, and more particularly to separable attachment plugs.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide improved means for facilitating the insertion and removal of the plug with respect to the socket, and of the cap with respect to the body of the plug.
A further object of my invention is to provide a separable attachment plug in which the cap portion is provided with an extension handle for facilitating the insettion of the plug in places which are difficult of access with the ordinary attachment plug.
A further object of my invention is to provide a separable attachment plug in which the cap is provided with an. extension handle for facilitating its connection with the body portion of the plug after the body portion of the plug has been screwed into a socket.
Further objects will appear fronrthe de tailed description to 'tollow and form the appended claims:
in the drawings in which anlembodiment of my invention is shown- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a separable attachment plug, the shade ,being shown in dotted lines;
Fig. 21s aview of the cap from 'the right of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view showing the cap inserted in aside wall receptacle; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing a different form of extension handle.
Referring now to the drawings indetail, the'separable attachment plug 10 ,which' is shown in its proper relative position with respect to the shade 11, is provided with an extension handle 12 in' theform of a'bail. The arms otthis bail are pivoted at 13 and 1% to the plug. 4
cap member 15'fof the, separable For the purpose of this pivotal connection,
the ends of .the arms of the bail are bent" inwardly,and'extend into oppositely dis- Means are provided for holding the handle 12 in any one of several positions, either extending longitudinally of the plug as shown in Fig. 2 or extending atright angles to the axis of the plug as shown at Fig. This prevents the handle from flopping around and also affords a firmer connection between the handle and plug. For this purpose, the insulating ,base of the cap issprovided with grooves or notches 16 and 17, into either one of which the bail will snap when turned to the proper position, the bail 12 being formed of resilient wire, the tension in this wire heing such as to tend to press the ends'of the bail inwardly at 13 and 14 into engagement with the cap.
The construction shown in Fig. .4 is substantially the same'as that ust described,-ex-
cept that here the bail is formed of sheet the cap with respect to the body of the plug posed recesses in the opposite. sides of the after the plug has been screwed into the socket.
It will be seen by reference to Fig. 1 that it would be quite diflicult either to screw the plug into the socket with a shade such as shown'here, or to connect or disconnect the cap with respect to'the plug after it has been screwed into the socket, without the use of my extension handle.
While I have shown invention, it is obvious that-it may be enibodied ilrotherforms covered by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what but two forms of my 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the -Unit'ed States is:
1. A separable attachment plug comprising a body member and a cap member, said body member comprising. "center and side contacts and blade-engaging contacts, said cap member comprising blades for en'g'aging said blade-engaging contacts, an extension handle movably mounted on said captransversely extending axis, andineans for" holding said handle in alignment with said plug. e l
An attachment plug-provided with an extension handle, said extension handle 00111 prising a bail-shaped member, having one arm pivoted to one side of the plug, and the other arm pivoted to the otherside 0f the plug, and means for holding said extension for engaging a portion of the bail to hold it in alignmentwith the plug.
5. Anattachment plug provided with an extension handle pivotally mounted to ed with an of the plug," and means for holding-said handle in different adjusted positions.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name. v
