`BOSS M. WILSON, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed February 25, 1925. Serial' No. 11,582.
To a'fZ 'wf-"womit may concern:
Be it known that I, RossM. VVrLsoN', a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland in they county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio,`have invented certain new and useful Improvements inDisplay Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display devices, and more particularly to counter display racks.
An object of the invention is the provision of a display rack which may be arranged on a store counter and employed for attractively displaying cigarettes, chewing gum, packages of candy, nuts and the like.
A further object of the invention is to pro. vide a rack of this character in which the packages are removed singly from the bottom and the remainingr packages fed by gravity toward the outlet opening as each package is removed.
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown one embodiment of the invention. In this showing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation,
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view on line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a similar view on line 3-3 of Figure 1, and,
Figure 4 is a detail vertical sectional view on line 4--4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates a base on which the rack is adapted to rest. The base is provided with a center post 2 on which the rack is rotatably supported. As shown, the rack is provided with a bottom plate 3 in the form of a disk and a central column 4 is arranged thereon and slightly spaced from the between the column and the ost may beemployed for storing. Exten mg upwardly from the base and arranged adjacent the column, I provide a plurality of racks 5 which are secured to the column in any suitable manner. These racks are provided with closed front and side walls and are shaped in horizontal cross section to receive a package of cigarettes, or other article, as indicated in Figure 3 of the drawings. At the bottom, the rack is closed by a plate 6 and adjacent the bottom, the front wall is cut away providing an opening 8 through which the package of ci arettes or other material may be removed. Te sides are similarly open at the bottom,
as indicated at 9. A plurality of radially extending plates 10 are secured to the column 4 and racks 11 adapted to contain packages of chewing gum, candy', mints, and the like, are arranged on opposite sides of these plates. These racks are provided with openings 12 at their lower ends, similarto theopenings 8 by means of which packages of the materials may be removed from the bottom.
Adjacent the top of the rack, I provide a plurality of shelves 13 which are secured to plates 14, extending in front of the racks 5 and having their ends secured to the adjacent racks 11. Any suitable number of horizontal rows of these shelves may be employed and the shelves are adapted to receive packages of salted peanuts, salted almonds, and the like. A cover plate 14 is arranged over the top of the racks and this cover plate is provided with a central opening to receive the post 2. A cap 15 may be arranged over the upper end of the post.
In operation, the cover plate 14 is removed and the various racks 5 filled with packages of cigarettes. As is well known, the present policy of cigarette manufacturers is to employ a standard size package and the racks may be made of the proper size to receive these packages. Diiferent brands of cigarettes may be arranged in the different racks. The racks 11 are likewise filled with chewing gum and candy mints, and the top replaced. When a purchaser desires a given article, the entire rack may be revolved on the base and the desired package removed through the opening 8 or 12 at the bottom of the particular column or rack. It will be apparent that until the rack is emptied, the packages willy feed downwardly to the outlet openin An desired product may be displayed on the s elves 13 and removed therefrom for the purpose of sale.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing `from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, a supporting plate, a central column mounted on said plate, a plurality of racks secured to said column and extending radially therefrom, the horizontal cross section of said racks being substantially the same as the packages to be received, the packages being adapted to be arranged in said racks one upon the other, said racks being proviaed with openings at the bottom to permit rew moval of a single package, plates extending radially from said central column between each pair of racks, a second set of racks secured to said plates, and a cover arranged over said racks.
2. A device constructed in accordance with claim l wherein horizontal rows ot shelves are arranged on the outside of said iirstfmentioned set of racks.
3. In a device of the character described` a base, a post extending upwardly from said base, and a display rack rotatably mounted on said post, said rack comprising a sup porting plato, a central column mounted on said plate and surrounding said post7 a plurality of racks secured to said column and extending radially therefrom, the horizontal cross section of said racks being substantially the same as that of the packages to be received, the packages being adapted to be arranged in said racks one upon the other, said racks being provided with openings at the bottom to permit removal of a single package, plates extending radially from said central column between each pair of rac-ks` a second set of racks secured to said plates. and a cover arranged over said racks.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
ROSS M. WILSON.
