J. F. PERRY PLOW Filed April 17. 1922 v 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 JERrry Patented Jan. 5, 1926.
JAMES F. PERRY, OF COVE CITY, NORTH CAROLINA.
PLOW.
. Application filed April 17, 1922. Serial No. 553,319.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that JAMES F. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cove City, in the county of Craven and State of North Carolina, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows, particularly to the standard of a plow constructed in such novel manner that same is adapted for receiving various attachments thereto.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a plow standard with means for attachment to a cultivator or riding sulky.
A further object of my invention is to provide a standard to which a plow share, mold boards or Wings and sweeps may be attached thereto individually or collectively.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a standard in which certain parts as are subject to the most wear and tear can be easily replaced with new parts when worn out.
An additional object of my invention is to provide means where the standard may be adjusted for raising and lowering the plow share into the ground.
An additional object of my invention is to provide a standard adapted to receive various attachments, that is simple in construction and operation, durable and efficient for all purposes intended, also one that can be cheaply manufactured and placed on the market at a relatively low cost.
These and like objects will be better understood as the description of my invention follows and as is specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification,-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow standard constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of the ploiv standard showing a plow share and mold board applied thereto.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of same.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary detail view of a plow share secured to my moldboard, taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Figure 5 is a perspective detail view of the heel of the standard;
Figure 6 is a bottom plan view of the standard.
Referring to the drawings in detail, like numerals will be used to designate like parts in the different views.
The numeral 1 denotes a standard comprising a pair of arms 2 and 3 respectively and provided at their upper ends with openings 4 which are adapted to aline with each other and through which a bolt is adapted to pass for securing the standard to a cultivator or riding sulky. The front end of the standard as indicated by the numeral 5 is provided on each side with recesses 66 adapted to receive the plow share 7 and secured thereon by means of a bolt 8. A mold board 9 is secured to the standard by means of bolts 10 and cross bars 11 that straddle the under edges of the arms 2 and 3 as indicated in Fig. 2. The lower edge of the mold board is provided with tongue 12 adapted to engage the underface of the upper edge of the plow share as indicated by numeral 13 for holding the plow share 7 rigidly on the standard.
A heel 14 provided with a projection 15 on the upper face of same is adapted to be secured to the underside of the standard by means of a bolt 16. The lug 15 is adapted to be seated in a recess 17 in the underside of the standard to prevent the heel from swinging out of position on the bolt 16.
A slot 22 is provided in the rear end of the standard to which means are connected for adjusting the standard carrying the plow share, mold board or sweep to any desired depth.
From the foregoing, it can be readily seen that I have provided a standard to which various attachments for tilting the soil may be applied thereto, according to the nature of the work desired and the formation of the ground over which the plow is adapted to pass.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I realize that various minor changes may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed, therefore, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details shown, northe combination and arrangement of part-s.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A device of the class described comprise ing a standard, the latter including a pair of spaced arms, a reduced portion formed at the fork of said arms, a p1ow share detaohably supported on said reduced portion, a moldboard supported on 'the upper faces of said arms and engaged with said plow share, and a cross bar supported againstthe bottom faces of said arms and fastened to said mold board for securing the latter on said standard. 10
in testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES F. PERRY.
