C. V. ALLEN ATTACHMENT FOR LADDER LEGS Filed. Oct. '5, 1922 III YEN TOR ya ATT ORNE Y Fatented Jan. 5, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ATTACHMENT FOR LADDER LEGS.
Application filed October 5, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES V. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Buffalo, State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Ladder Legs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
This invention is in the way of an attachment for a ladder leg, and the object is to provide an adjustable attachment for one of the legs of a ladder, as means for shortening that leg to meet the inequalities of the ground on which the ladder may stand.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view.
Figure 2 is a detail of the lower end of one of the ladder legs adapted for the attachment.
Figure 3 is a detail of the attachment for the ladder leg.
In carrying out the invention, a sleeve 1 is provided of a. cross sectional form adapted to slide over the lower end 2 of the ladder leg 3. The leg 3 is shortened as shown to adapt the ladder for this improvement. The sleeve 1 is formed with slots at at each side. A clamping band 5 is slidingly mounted around the sleeve 1, and this band has a bolt hole 6 pierced straight through both sides. A. corresponding bolt hole 7 is formed through the end 2 of the leg. The sleeve 1 is fitted upon the end 2, and a bolt Serial No. 592,530.
8 is passed through the holes 6 and 7 and provided with a. wing nut 9. Thus that leg of the ladder may readily be shortened, as desired.
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and HJSSGIIP bling the elements of my invention, it is understood that same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
In combination with a ladder having one leg shortened and having a bolt hole extended through that shortened leg in the plane of the ladder; a sleeve having side slots extended longitudinally of the sleeve, the said slots extending clear out through the sides at their upper ends but being closed at their lower ends, whereby the upper ends of the sleeve may be pinched against the ladder leg, the said sleeve being adapted to slidingly engage the shortened leg with the slots of the sleeve aligned with the said bolt hole; a clamp consisting of a split band slidingly mounted over the sleeve and having bolt holes therethrough aligned with the slots of the said sleeve and the bolt hole of the said shortened leg; and a bolt with a wing nut inserted through the said bolt holes of the shortened leg and the clamp and the slots of the said sleeve, as means for pinching the clamp against the ladder leg.
CHARLES V. ALLEN.
