I A RNEY Patented Jan. 5, 1926.
- UNITED STATES 1,568,121 PATENT OFFICE.
JOSE B. YANEZ, OF DAVENPORT, IOWA. i
CRAVAT FRAME.
Application filed August 1, 1924. Serial No. 729,455.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, Josu B. YANEZ, citizen of Mexico, residing at Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cravat Frames, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates generally to neckties, having more particular reference to a frame on which the tie proper is mounted and which is arranged to facilitate the attaching of the tie in place on the collar and the removal of the tie therefrom, the invention having for an object the provision of a novel device for the above purpose.
The further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the ap ended claims in which the various novel eatures of the invention are more particularly set forth.
. Fig. 1 of the drawing is a face view showing my improved frame or holder.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View thereof taken on the line 2 2 of Fig.V 1.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are transverse sectional views taken res ectively on the lines 3--3, 4-4 and 5 5 o Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a face view showing the tie in the process of application to a collar.
As here embodied my improved device comprises a vertically elongated plate 10 which is provided with laterally extending wings 11 at its upper end, these wings being adapted to engage under the outer lelement of the collar. Movably carried by the plate 10 is a bar 12 which is adapted to be engaged with the usual stud on the neck band of the shirt, being provided with an eye 13 in its upper end for this purpose, this bar being projected above the ktop edge of the plate when the tie is being secured in place so as to facilitate engagement of the eye with the stud on the shirt, suitable removable locking means being provided to normally retain the bar 12 in position with its upper end below the top of the plate 10.
As here shown the bar 12 is adjustably held in engagement with the back of the plate by means of the straps 15 and 16 on the latter located adjacent the upper and lower ends thereof respectively. To hold the bar 12 against upward movement on the plate 10 the latter is formed with a vertical slot 18 which has ratchet teeth 19 formed on its side walls, these ratchet teeth facing downwardly.- kThese ratchet teeth adapted to be engaged by the out turned members 21 on the upper ends of the legs of a wire 22 bent to U-shape, and which lies upon the face of the bar 12 and projects at its lower end below the lower end of the plate 10, the upper portion of this wire being accommodated in the slot 18, while the lower portion of the plate 10, is formed with the vertical grooves 23 which accommodate the two legs of the said wire as they extend downwardly below the plate.
The upper ends of the wire are held against outward displacement from the teeth 19 by means of a cleat 25 which is secured to a vertical rib 26 on the said bar. To enable the two ends 21 of the wire 22 to be moved toward one another to displace them from the teeth 19 the legs of the wire are formed, a short distance above their lower ends, with the outwardly projected U-elements 27 with which elements freely straddle a pair of pins 28 fixed to the lower ends of the bar 12, thereby holding the wire from longitudinal displacement on the bar.
A suitable cloth element 3() is attached to the front of the frame 10 to form the tie proper.
In applying the tie the detent ends 2l are disengeced from the teeth 19 and the bar 12 moved upward to the position shown in Fig. 6 permitting ready engagementwith the usual stud 31. The frame 10 is moved upward, automatically locking in its raised position.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:
1. A device of class described comprising a plate adapted to hold a tie, said plate being formed with a vertical slot, ratchet teeth formed on the side walls of said slot, a bar engaged with said plate for vertical adjustment thereon and having its upper end formed with an eye, and pawl elements carried by said bar and removably engaging said ratchet teeth, a U-wire mounted on said plate and having said pawl elements formed on the upper ends of its legs, and means attaching said wire to said bar to permit of lateral movement to its legs while preventing longitudinal displacement of the wire on said bar.
2. A device of the class described comare prisingiaplitte zidapted to hldfvatie, said plate being formed with a vertical slot, ratchet teeth formed on the side Walls of said slot, a bar engagedwith'sad"plte lfor 5 vertical adjustment thereon and havingits upper end formed with an "eye, and pawl elements Carried by said .bar andl-ren'iovably engaging said ratchet teeth, a U-Wire mounted on: sadiplatewmid having .said ep awl l0 elements ,formed on theupper sends zof 'its legs, lvani'l means ettachingf'saidwire to said bar toY permit of lateral movement of its legs Whilepreyenting longitudinal displacement'of'theyire on said bar, said means comprising U-elements projected from the sides of the Wire, and pins on said bar straddled .freely-.bythe said U-elements.
ln testimony whereof l have aixed my signature.
JOSE B. YANEZ.
