Dec. 29, 1925- J. M. LOZANO SOUVENIR LAMP SHADE Filed August 4, 1925 Patented Dec. 29, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOS M. LOZANO, on NEW YORTQN. Y.
SOUVENIR LAIVIP SHADE.
Application inea August 4, 1925. sez-m1 No. 48,031.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOS M. LOZANO, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Souvenir Lamp Shades, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lamp-shades for electric lamps or the like, and has for its object the provision of a novel, artistic and ornamental shade which will appeal to th public.
My invention comprehends the provision of a souvenir lamp-shade blank, intended to be used by tourists for the purpose of serving as a memento of a trip or voyage with which it has been identified. The lamp shade blank is preferably made from parchment or other flexible transparent or translucent material and has printed thereon or otherwise applied thereto, some pictorial matter such as a picture of an ocean liner, train, building, or other interesting representation associated with the trip. The blank space surrounding the pictorial illustration or illustrations is provided for the reception of autographs, such as signatures of friends or acquaintances who might be met during the trip, or with a diary or itinerary of the trip written by the individuals. Then the lamp-shade blank has been used as thus intended, the same may be returned to the manufacturer, who, having previously received compensation for his work in the original sale of the blank, will form the same into a complete lamp-shade, with the necessary frame Work and sunnorts, and return it to the original purchaser, ready for use.
Various other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description thereof proceeds.
Referring now to the drawings, which illustrate one form of embodiment of the invention,-
Fig. l illustrates one form of blank embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of another form of blank which has been mounted to form the lamp shade.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 1, A indicates a sector-shaped blank of parchment or other flexible, trans- .illust-ration B, of a boat, automobile, train,
or other conveyance, or of the hotel or any other object identified with a trip or tour, is placed on the blank so as to leave the major portion thereof plain or unadorned so as to receive the signatures of friends and acquaintances, or other writings, as indicated at C, which are applied to the blank, preferably during the trip or voyage and before it is formed into a lamp-shade so as to produce an autographed shade when mounted.
Fig. 2 illustrates a blank mounted to produce the lamp shade D. This blankcomprises two or more pictorial illustrations E and E', with a plurality of signatures F on the unadorned portions thereof. The blank is mounted on and supported by a ring G at the top and a ring H at the bottom, and is provided with supporting members I secured to the top ring G for supporting the shade upon the bulb or other portion of an electric lamp. In practising the invention, the blanksA or D are produced with the pictorial illustrations B and E or E thereon and a substantial portion thereof plain, and are sold by the steamship agency, railroad, tourists agency, hotel, or the like, to the tourist or resident, or to any other person who, in the usual practice, will carry the blank with him on the tour and will have the same autographed by acquaintances and friends whom he may meet. When the autographed blank is returned, the seller will then mount it betweenthe rings G and H to produce the completed autographed shade, substantially as illustrated in Fig. 2, and deliver the completed shade to the purchaser. The blank will be sold with a guarantee to mount the same, or, if desired, the blank and the rings G and H may be sold as a unit, and the blank may be mounted by the purchaser when a sufficient number of signatures are secured.
The invention is not confined to any particular type or style of lamp-shade, or to any particular pictorial illustration on the blank as originally sold, as it will be readily understood by persons skilled in the art that the main idea underlying the invention may be embodied in different types of eonstrucreceive autographs or the like intended to be tion, soid beim-e forming into a complete lamp I Claim; .shade to enable the purchaser to secure auto- 10 AS a new article of manufacture for regraphs thereon- 5 tail sale, a flexible transparent unformed In GSIUOHX Wheffof have afxed my lamp-shade blank, bearing a pictorial illus- Signature t0 5h15 speclcatlontration and having an unadorned space t0 JOS M. LOZANO.
