SHOE FORM AND SUPPORT.

Application filed September 4, 1924.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EUGENE L. CAVANNA, a citizen of the United States, residing at. Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe Forms'and Sup ports, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in shoe forms and supports, and has for its object to provide a new and improved device of that character by which a shoe, slipper, or the like, may be supported neatly and firmly in position with the upper facing out, the

device being constructed and arranged to maintain the supported shoe or slipper under suflicient tension to preserve its normal contour, my device thus functioning both as a support and a form.

These and other objects will be more fully set forth and described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective of one of my devices, a ladies slipper being illustrated in dotted lines as supported and under form tension.

10 indicates generally a supporting strip or bar, to which is secured by screws 11, or the like, the base portion 12 of a supporting member 12. From the base portion the intermediate portion of the supporting device is looped or bent over, as indicated by numeral 12 and terminates in a looped or reversely bent toe portion 12, upon which is attached by spot welding, or the like, a shield or form 12. The arrangement of this toe form portion is such that when it is inserted fully into the toe portion of a shoe, or slipper, the portion l2 of the metal strip will be partially bent downwardly and thereby placed under tension, which will be transmitted to the shoe 12 to maintain the toe of the supported shoe, or slipper, in distended normal contour. The looped portion 12 is provided with a slot 12", through which may be inserted the stem 13 of form member 13, which is provided with a curved or form head 13. with notches 13, adapted to coact with one end of slot 12 when the member 13 is under operative tension. This member 13 is preterably formed of a strip of spring metal, the stem 13 being formed of two parallel portions 13 constructed to normally spread or diverge as illustrated in Fig. 3, this construction setting up a frictional contact between the stem 13 and the sides of the slot- 12".

The base portion 12 is provided with a heel engaging lug or flange 14, suitably attached or secured thereto, as illustrated in Fig. 1.

As indicated above the supporting-member 12 is preferably constructed of a strip of spring or tempered metal, and the arrangement is such that in use a shoe or slipper is moved to insert the toe portion and shield 12 fully into the toe of the shoe, as described above, after which the shoe is moved to additionally how the intermediate portion 12 until the heel of the shoe may be slipped over the lug 14, the tension or resistance in the intermediate portion 12 setting up a tension between the heel and toe of the shoe to maintain the same in supported position. This tension would normally function to distort the sides and arch of the supported shoe, and in order to obviate such a result the form member 13 is provided, which may be moved so that the head 13 thereof contacts with the inner heel portion of the shoe, sutficient pressure being exerted to return the sides and arch of the shoe tonormal contour. When moved to the proper position form member 13 may be locked by moving one of the notches into engagement. with an end of slot 12, in which position the displacement and consequent increased tension in the looped portion 12 will serve to main-- tain the members in proper relation. The form member 13 may be partially withdrawn when it is desired to remove or insert a shoe, the spread of the stem members maintaining it in such position, or it may be removed entirely it its use is not desired.

It will be obvious that my device is susceptible of various modifications, and I do not wish to be restricted to the form shown and described, except as defined in the appended claims.

WVhat I claim is:

1. A device of the class described comprising a shoe supporting member attachable to a fixed support, said member being provided with a toe engaging portion, means ooacting therewith to engage the heel of a shoe exteriorily thereof, and a second means coacting with said member and engageable with the inner heel portion of a shoe.

2. A device of the class described comprising a shoe supporting member attachable to a fixed support, said member being provided with a toe engaging portion, means coacting therewith to engage the heel'of a shoe exteriorly thereof, and a second means coacting with said member and engageable with the inner heel portion of a shoe, said last named means being adjustable.

3. A device of the class described comprising a shoe supporting member attachable to a fixed support, said member being provided with a toe engaging portion, means coacting therewith to engage the heel of a shoe exteriorly thereof, and a second means coacting with said member and engageable with the inner heel portion of a shoe, said last named means being removable.

4. A device of the class described comprising a shoe supporting member attachable to a fixed support, said member being provided with a toe engaging portion, means coacting therewith to engage the heel of a shoe exteriorly thereof, and a second means coacting with said member and engageable with the inner heel portion of a shoe, said last named means comprising a member having a stem and a shoe engaging head. a

A device of the class described comprising a shoe supporting member attachable to a fixed support, said member being provided with a toe engaging portion, means coacting therewith to engage the heel of a shoe exteriorly thereof, and a second means coacting with said member and engageable with the inner heel portion of a shoe, said last named means comprising a member having a stem and a shoe engaging head, said stem being slidable in a slot in said supporting member.

A. device of the class described compris ing a shoe supporting member attachable to a fixed support, said member being provided with a toe engaging portion, means coacting therewith to engage the heel of a shoe eX- teriorly thereof, and a second means coacting with said member and engageable with the inner heel portion of a shoe, said last named means comprising a member having a stem and a shoe engaging head, said stem being slidable in a slot in said supporting member, and provided with notches engageable with one end of said slot.

7. A devic of the class described comprising a shoe supporting member attachable to a fixed support, said member being provided with a toe engaging'portion, means coacting therewith to engage the heel of a shoe exteriorly thereof, and a second means coaeting with said member and engageable with the inner heel portion of a shoe, said last named means comprising a member having a stem and ashoe engaging head, said stem being formed of two parallel normally divergent portions.

8. In combination, a shoe supporting member having associated therewith a heel engaging means, and being provided with a portion insertable in the toe of a shoe, or the like, said supporting member being formed of spring material and looped intermediate said heel engaging means and toe engaging portion to maintain a supported shoe, or the like, under tension between saidpoints, and a form member having a portion insertable in and engageable with the inner heel portion of a shoe, saidmember being in engagement with said intermediate portion of said supporting member to receive a thrust therefrom.

9. In combination, a shoe supporting member having associated therewith a heel engaging means, and being provided with a portion insertable in the toe of a shoe, or the like, said supporting member beingformed of spring material and looped intermediate said heel engaging means and toe engaging portion to maintain a supported shoe, or the like, under tension between said points, and a form member having a portion insertable in and engage-able with the inner heel portion of a shoe, said member being in engagement with said intermediate portion of said supporting member to receiv a thrust therefrom, and being provided with-notches engageable with said intermediate portion of said supporting member to vary its relativ position with respect thereto.
