DANIEL NEHART, OF MARTINS FERRY, OHI.
sirnnrarnnnine DEVICE.
Application filed September 15, 1923. Serial No. 662,852.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL Nini-IAM, a
citizen of the United States of America, rand i lresident lof Martins Ferry, county offBel 1nont,rand State of Ohio, have inventedcertain new and useful'lmprovements 11n Sheetv pot-,and it has for its primary objectto provide .a tank for containing a pickling fluid, water, or thelike, in which the sheets aref submerged prior to tinning,fand1 mechanism-y associated with said ltank whereby lsheets of Y a'pack submerged in the Yfluid of the tank are i Eelevated;'therefrom-1 -one atA va time and addrawings, in which- Y `vanced to the receiving rolls of a tinning pot.
Y Figure is-anenlarged sectional View of a sheet-advancing roller;
Figure 5. is a similar View of the shaft l oscillating mechanism;
1 Figures @and 7 are enlarged face views of the parts which form thev guides for the shiftable bar; l
Figures 8 and 9 areenlarged detail views -in side and front elevation, respectively, of the pack-engaging lingers; and- Figures 10 and 11 are'similar views of the l adjustable pack guides.
Referring to said drawings, l-,indicates a .tank ofrectangular boX-likeform adapted to contain av bath, of water or suitable y pickling fluid. Journaled `in the opposite ends oftheftank adjacent-to thefront wall are parallellshafts 2 andv 3, said shaft 3 lbeingdispos'edabove said shaft 2 and slightly.
forward of the vertical planein which the latter` is located. The shaftA 3 has: fixed thereon a plurality of-rollers 4, each having on its peripheral surfacea covering y5 of al g soft or `resilient material, preferably-soft rubber vand the shaftQ likewise has thereon a plurality of rollers (Sawhich either `may be keyed for rotation with the rshaft or may be loose so that they and the shaft rotate inde- The` rollers 4 and 6 are adapted for having rest thereagainst the foremost sheet 7 of a pack 8 of sheets which is disposed within the tank in a slightly inclined position with the lower-edge thereof seated upon av plurality of bai.; 9 forming parts of a pack support.
Located rearward of and in engagement with the rearmost sheet ofthe pack are' the lingers l0 of a device whereby pressure is f constantly exerted for maintaining'the pack in theforwardly rthrust-position in which the foremost sheet rests closely against the `two sets of rollers l-k and 6. -As herein shown forl purposes of illustration',i said pressure vdevice 10, which are iixedA upon said Ybar `11', vare each bent to forn` a curvedbariover-h'anging portion 10EL and a downw'ardlv--andV reary wardlyf inclined maliny bodyp'ortion, saidportion-10a being designedas supports over `which the pack S is passed in introducing the latter in the tank,1and the'main body portion is downwardly. and rearwardly* inclined to correspond substantiallyV with thev inclination l"of the packwhen the latteroccupies its inclined positiony in seated relation to the two sets of rollers aand.Y
- Adjustably*mounted* upon the iopposite end portions of the bai' 11A are guide members 14 which, as herein shown, are `disposed vertically,l but theyl may be ofany suitable form adapted to facilitate thework of enten ing thepacks in a positionl substantially mid way between the ends of the tank. Alaterally extending lip 16 formed on or'carried by each guide member 14 rests upon the bar 1l and has `an adjusting pin or boltl directed verticallyltherethrough and slidable in a. slot 18 provided therefor in said bar.
Attached tothe bar 11 adjacent to each of its ends is an end of a cableY or chain 19 which extendshorizontally'forward to and over a pulley 20 carried by a bracket 2l mounted on a'wall of the tank, and the opposite end of said cahleor chain has suspended thereon a suitable weight'QQ. "Saidweights act through said, chains normally to maintain'thebar 11 advancedin the position in which the lingers 10 bear upon the packfor holding` the latter in its most advanced vposition and to `still ,further advance the pack as each sheet rthereof is withdrawn.
` The pack support comprises, in addition to the bars 9, a pair of' transverse supporting support upon which a pack of sheets seats in edgewise position, adjustable suspension means for said support, guides carried by said tank adjacent to the opposite lateral edges of thepaok, a transverse bar slidable in said guides, means carried by said bar for seating against the rear face of the pack, means connected to said bar whereby the latter is actuated to maintain the pack in a foryvardiy thrust posit-ion in which it rests 10 closely against said rollers', and means for rotating one of said shafts for effecting elevation of the foremost sheet of the pack by the friction of the rollers carried by said shaft.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
DANIEL NEIHART.
