- This invention relates (so-improvement in store-front construction, and particularlytostore-front construction which includes a front strip and a back stri These stri s are usuall connected toget or by bolts, t e
head of w ich is held in the outer strip and,
extending throu h the inner strip, receives a nut by which t e two strips are drawntoward each other, so as to grip the ed of sheets of lass between them. Diflicu ty is experien in hol the screws in position, and the ob'ect o this invention is to provide means or supporting the screws,- and the invention consists 1n the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In g out our.invent1on, as shown inFig. 2 of the drawings, for corners'we 15 formed by striking the metal inward, and
. tend through inner strips 20 of the desired employ an outer stri 10 with flanges 11 "and 12 arranged at the desired angle to set over the edges of sheets of glass 13 and 14. The central portion of the outer strip is provided at intervals with inwardly-extending sockets preferably'these sockets will be substantial- 'ly square to receive the squared ends 16,
turned at right angles from the threaded .stems of bolts 17, whichvstems will project inward at right angles to thevcentral portion of the outer strips. Preferably, the
socket 15 will be formed with indentations 18 to enter notches 19 formed in the squared ends 16 of the bolts 17.- These boltsexform, having flanges 21 and 22 to engage with the inner faces of the sheets of glass 13 and 14, and a nut 23 is applied to the projecting end of the bolt 17, so as to crowd the two plates together. In this construction, it will be desirable to cover the outer stri with a facing 24,0f sheet copper, and in t is case, the inner strip may be formed from steel or other suitable metal.
In Fig. 6, we have illustrated the invention as applied to division strips, where they are used between two sheets of glass arranged in the same plane, the parts cor-- responding to the parts above described, and
as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Instead of forming the outer strip fromsteel, itmay be formed from copper,-in
which case the center of the stri willbe formed with inset bends. 25, an in the inner wall 26 of this inset sockets 27 will be struck out to receive the ends 16 of bolts 17 as above described. The ed es formed by the inset bend will be broug t'together so as to form a triangular inward projection, but the edges will be so close together 1 that it will not mar the appearance of the structure, and avoids the necessity-of a facing strip. In either case, we provide a firm mounting for the bolts, which bolts are readily entered'into the sockets.
We claim:
1. A. store-front construction, comprising an outer strip formed with inwardly-extend- '7 ing spaced sockets, and bolts having ends formed with indentations, and the endsof turned at right angles and entered into saidthe bolts 'formed with notches to engage l0 sockets. j therewith.
2. A store-front construction, comsrising In testimony whereof, we have signed this 6 an outer stri provided with mwar ly-exspecification. 1
tending an n ar sockets, and bolts having I angular. en s turned at right angles and en-- I FRED HIMMEL." tered into said sockets, the said sockets ISIDORE HIMMEL.
