H. sJBLoM WASH LINE SUPPORT 'Fild nec, 19. 192sv INYENTOR Patented Dec. 8, 1925.
PATENT; OFFICE.I
HARRY sJRLoM, or BRooKLYN, New YORK.
WASH-LINE SUPPORT. i,
Application filed December 19, 1923. Serial No. 681,459.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it'known that I, HARRY SJBLoM, a citizen of bweden, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Wash-Line Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in line supports and more particularly to such lines as are used in domestic establishments for subjecting laundered articles to the action et the air and sun in drying and airing the same.
One of the objects is to provide a device 'T adapted to be fixedly engaged with the wall et a building, adjacent to a window or door opening, said device having means for supporting a pulley block over which the line is reve, se that any part of the line may be readily utilized. n
A further purpose is to produce means by which any part of the line may be drawn inwardly through a window or like opening, articles securely disposed thereon by a per- Ll son within the building in a convenient manner, without stooping, stretching or assuming an uncomfortable position, and thereafter the line, together' with the attached articles, extended outward of the window, all of which is accomplished in an easy and perfectly safe manner.
Another aim is in the provision of a device than can be adjusted as desired and positively held in such adjustment.
These and like objects are attained by the nevel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part ot this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a partial side elevational, partial vertical sectional view showing a con* ventional type of window to which an embodiment of the invention is applied.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same, both showing the support means as retracted or drawn within the window.
Figure 3 is a view similar te Figure 2 but showing the device as fully extended.
In the drawing, the numeral designates the wall .of a building in which is a window having sashes 11 running in grooves 12, both sashes being shown as in a raised position.
Attached permanently and securely to the wall 10, closely adjacent the window opening, is the toot la of a bracket having a curved arm 15 terminating in a cylindrical sleeve or guide head 16, the same being ot' considerable length and disposed in a horizontal plane at a right angle to the foot of the bracket, clearing the wall and extending in `front et the window opening.
Carried by an eye bolt 17, set in the element 15, is a single sheave pulley 18. Slidable free-ly in the sleeve or guide head 16 is a rod or bar 19, its end adjacent the window having a cross handle 20 and a rigid transverse pin 21 terminating in an eye 22 with which is engaged a sheave 23.
At the opposite outer end of the rod 19 is a cross bar 24 having cord guides 25 at its opposite ends and carrying a central clevis support 26 having a pin 27 on which is rotatably mounted a grooved pulley 28.
A winged set screw 29 engages in a boss 30 formed on the sleeve 16, its point impinging on the rod 19 te hold it in adjustment.
A small rope or line 31, secured at a point remote, is passed around the pulley in the sheave block 18, over the pulley 2S, thence around the sheave in the block 23 and then outward, parallel to the other portion of the line which is guided by the elements 25.
It will now be apparent that when the handle 2O and thus the rod 19, be pressed outward, the line and whatever articles that may have been disposed upon it will be projected wholly beyond and clear of the window, permitting the sashes to be closed if desired, this operation in nowise affecting the length of the line by shortening or stressing the same, and that the rod may be secured by the screw 29 in any adjustment.
Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction, operation and use, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A line support comprising a bracket having a base fixed to a support, a curved arm extending from the base, and a guide head at the end of said arm disposed at a right sion, and a pair of oppositely disposed line angle to the base, a pulley block mounted on guides formed on said extension, said guides said arm adjacent the head, a rod slidable leading` a line from the rst named pulley through said head, a cross handle on one end block around the pulley, thence to the second 5 of Said rod to adjust the same, means oarnamed pulley block and eventually outward 15 ried by said head to hold the rod when adin parallel With the entering portion. justed, a second pulley block carried by said In Witness whereof I have aixed my sigrod adjacent and below said handle, an eX- nature. tension lixed on the opposite end of said rod, u
