To all LU/ 10m it may concern Be it known that I, Join: E. Curran, a citizen of the Uni ed States, residing at Ba timore, State of aryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Attachment for Gas flanges, t which the following is a specification.

ihe present invention relates to an attachment for gas ranges and the like and has for its principal object to provide means for preventing the turning on ot the ga' cocks leading from the supply to the burners.

Another important object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this nature which may be easily attached to the supply pipes of the gas range and may be swing to an out-of-the-way position when desired.

Another important object o the invention is to provide an attachment of this nature with means for holding it in an operative position in the path of the handles of the s COClIS so as to prevent turning thereof. A still further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this nature possessed ct an extremely simple and eiiicient structure, one which is etlective and reliable, inexpensive to manufacture, capable of being used on practically all. conventional forms of as ranges, stron durable, not liable to readily get out of order, and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and numerous other objects in view will appear as the description roceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that F designates generally a range which is provided with the usual supply pipe P having the branches 15 extendinwardly toward the range tor supplythe various burners (not shown) and having ineo'rl'iorated therein the conventional form or cocks C operable by the handles H. My attachment consists of an elongated parallel piped bar 5 carried by spring clips 6 which are substantially U- shaped in formation and include curved jaws adapted to straddle the supply pipes P as is shown to advantage in Fig.

The bar 5 may be swung so as to be positioned in the full line position shown in l? 3 or in the dotted line position shown in the same figure. When in the full line position, said bar is located in the path of movement of the handles 8 and prevents the opening of the valve controlled by said handle. When in this dotted line position, it will be seen that the handles are free to swing out wardly from the range for opening the gas cocks C.

fit sleeve 9 is slidably mounted on the bar 5 and pivotally supports a catch member 10 by means of a pin or the like 11. The upper end 01 this catch is ot set as at 12 to allow ready operation thereof while the lower end thereof is curved to form a hook 13 "for enone of the branches B as is clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4tso as to hold the bar .in its upright or operative position as shown in full lines in Fig. 3.

It is thought that the construction and ing operation of the attachment will be clearly understood without a more detailed description thereof. It will be apparent from the above that this attachment is possessed of an extremely simple structure which is both ciiicient and effective and which will be thoroughly reliable in operation. The present embodiment of the invention which I have given by way of example possesses all the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and it is desired to point out that difierent changes in the details of construction, in the materials, in the dimensions, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. An attachment of the class described including an elongated bar, spring clips on the bar for attaching the same to the supply pipe of a gas range, a sleeve slid-able on the bar, and a hook on the sleeve for engaging ably engaging a supply pipe on a gas range, 0

asleeve slidahly mounted ont-hfe bar between the clips, and a catch pivoted intermediate its ends to the sleeve, one end of the catch being offset to-provide an operating handle and the other end being curved to form an 15 engaging hook.
