Description

R. A, AUBERG 'GAITER Filed April 5' Fig] Patented Dec. 1, 1925.
UNITE STATES ROBERT ALFRED AUBERGE, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
GAITER.
App1ication filed April 5, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ronnn'r ALFRED AU- nnnen, a citizen of the Republic of France, and residing at Paris, Seine Department,
No. 12 Rue Melingue, in the Republic of France, industrial, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gaiters, of which the following is a specification.
Gaiters of known types are in use in which the foot straps consist of rubber or other elastic tape whose ends are sewn in the proper place upon either side of the gaiter. But when the rubber tape becomes worn out, it requires a certain time to adapt another foot strap to the gaiter.
In my invention this drawback is obviated, and I am enabled to construct a gaiter to which the rubber foot straps are attached in a removable manner, for instance by means of suitable clasps.
The appended drawing shows by way of example a constructional form of a gaiter in accordance with my invention.
Fig. l is a partial side elevation of the gaiter.
Figs. 2 and 3 are elevational views of the clasp alone, on a larger scale.
Fig. 4 is a side elevational View of the foot strap, also on a larger scale.
Between the fabric of-the gaiter 1 and the facing or border which is generally of leather, is sewn at each side of the gaiter a band 3 which is folded upon itself in such manner as to form a. loop. In the said loop and before attaching it to the gaiter is engaged one branch of a clasp 4: serving to attach the foot strap. The said clasp consists of a U-shaped piece of wire having a certain elasticity, whereof one branch ends in a hook in which the point of the other branch may be em Serial No. 704,523.
gaged, somewhat as in the case of a safety pin.
The foot strap consists of a piece of elastic tape 5, or like elastic member, to whose ends are fastened the metal fittings 6 which are bent at 7 so as to form a channel into which the movable branch of the clasp can be inserted with facility.
When the foot strap is worn out, it is simply necessary to open the two clasps, and to 59 substitute a new foot strap. It is evident that foot straps of different lengths correspending to various sizes of gaiters and provided with the metal fittings 6 can be placed on sale.
Obviously, the removable foot strap according to my said invention can be employed for all classes of gaiters for men, women and children. Without departing from the spirit of the invention, I may vary 60 the shape of the clasp as well as the method of attaching the same to the foot strap and to the gaiter.
Claim:
The combination of a gaiter, an elastic and removable foot-strap, two metallic fittings respectively secured to the ends of the footstrap and folded or bent upon themselves so as to constitute a socket, sheaths secured to the lower edges of the gaiter, two U-shaped clasps, each clasp being adapted to enter, on the one hand, into the socket of the said respective metallic fitting and, on the other hand, into the said respective sheath, and means for preventing these clasps from unduly coming out the said sheaths and sockets.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name.
ROBERT ALFRED AUBERGE.
