PROTECTIVE DEVICE FOR FENCES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RoY IV. Yourro, a citizen of the United States, residing at lilmore, in the county of Faribault and State of lilinncsota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Protective Devices or Fences, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to fence attachments and has for its object the provision of a novel device of a brace like nature adapted for engagement upon a wire fence of any kind for preventing the fence. wire from being forced downwardly by animals, the device being equally well suited for use on fences of barbed or otl line wire or a combination of woven and barbed there being no restriction in this respect.

Another object is the provision of a lr. e which is formed from a single length of heavy gage wire or light 'od, and which, when once placed in position will remain until positively and intentionally removed.

An additional object is the provision of an attachment of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to apply, positive in action, efiicient and durable in service and a general improvement in the art.

lVith the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be herein after more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: I

Referring more particularly to the drawings the letter A represents fence posts forming part of a fence constructed of woven wire B above which are two strands of barbed wire C. This is simply for purpose of illustration as it is obvious that the device is equally well usable on fences con structed entirely of line wires or entirely of woven wire.

In carrying out the invention I provide a brace designated broadly by the numeral 10, which brace is formed from a single length of wire of heavy gage or rod of light gage, bent and rebent as shown at ll and 12 respectively at each end to deline hooks 13. In applying the device, the convolution or loop 14: is first engaged upon the lower wire C, one hook 3 is engaged with the top most strand of the woven wire section B and the other. hook 1 3 engaged upon the upper wire C. The wires engage within the first bends 12 of the hooks and it is therefore obvious that the brace will reinforce the fence and positively prevent the wires from being forced down out of place upon the exertion of pressure by animals. The device is bound to prolong the life of a fence and lceep it in good condition. As the brace is formed from a single piece of wire or the like, it is evident that the cost of production will be negligible as compared with the benefits derived from its employment.

ll hile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention I claim:

1. Means fon bracing a wire fence, comprising an elongated member formed from a single length of resilient wire coiled intermediate its ends to define an eye adapted to be engaged with one wire of a fence, the end portions being bent backwardly and then rebent to define hooks engageable with adjacent wires of the fence.

2. A fence brace comprising an elongated member formed from a single length of resilient wire coiled intermediate its ends to define an eye engageable with one wire of a fence, said length of wire having its end portions bent backwardly toward each other and rebent with the terminals lying within the first mentioned bends whereby to define retaining hooks adapted for en gagement with wires at opposite sides of the first named wire.

8. A brace of the character described formed from a single length of resilient material provided centrally with a loop adapted for engagement upon one wire of a fence and formed at both ends with refiexly extended portions defining hooks engageable with other wires of a fence for holding the wires relatively rigid.
