tion.
This invention, generally stated, relates to rooiingaconstructions and has more especial relation to roolings on which roofing pitch is applied thereto and in which gutter hangers are supported by the roofing boards.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a simple, ecient and comparatively inexpensive roofing structure of the character stated in which the roofing pitch is guarded against sliding forward; in which the roofing felt is securely clamped with respect to the roofing boards; and in which thegutter, including its support, is
' detachably clamped with respect to the covering strip, roofing felt, and roofing boards.
Other and further objects of the present yinvention relate to the provision of general details of construction and arrangement and combination of parts for attaining the results sought by the leading object.
Other and further objects not at this time appearing Will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The invention consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming` part hereof, and in which:
Fig. 1, is a fragmentary viewn Section illustrating' a rooting structure embodying the invention.
Fig. 2, is a similar view illustrating 'a 'rooting pitch designated 7.
Serial No. 45,303.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the aceompanying drawings several forms thereof which areat present preferred by me, since the same have been`l found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although itis to be understood that the various instrumen.
talities of which my invention consists can vbe variously arranged and organized and that my linvention is notI limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and dee scribed.
Referring now to the drawings in detail and with especial relation to Fig. 1, the reference numeral 2 designates what is coinmonly known in the building trade as the barge. Supported by wall 1 are roofing boards designated 3 which as shown in Fig. 1 are longitudinally disposed. Fitted to the top of therooting boards 3 is a metallic member 4 theeXtreme outer end of which is bent at right angles as at 5 to entirely cover the exposed end of the roofing boards, and thereafter is bent outwardly to provide a dripping piece G. superimposed upon the metallic member 4 is a slab-of roofing felt designated (i.` Uponthe roofing felt is laid The roofing pitch terminates short of the extreme outer lends of the roolingboards and roofing felt and 3 are securely clamped with respect to cach other. For this purpose a bolt 9 is employed which penetrates the above described parts and is provided with a nut 10 adapted to be screwed home 'against the covering strip, and a nut 11 is employed for abutting against the underside of the roofing boards 3. Carried by bolt 9 is a gutter support 12 which is of angular construction and nuts 13 and 14 are employed for clamping said gutter support with respect to bolt 9. The inclined portion of the gutter support has attached thereto by means of a screw 15 the outermost roofing board overhan s the wall 1 and barge 2 so that strengthening or reinforcing' means `are lreqlpired to prevent the said end board from reaking oil'. In
order to guard 'against this, I -provlde a gutter supportI rovided at its inner end vvith a horizonta extension 19` which abuts against the underside of floor board 18 and is-screwed `thereto as at20. This extension 19 .is then extended downwardl angles as at 21, thence outward y in horizontal position as at 22, and thereafter at an inclination as at 23. Between th'e horizontal extension 22 and the outermost portion of the roong boards is `provided a channel member 24 and the bolt 9, described in Fig. 1, penetrates said channel member and said horizontal extension 22, and `a nut 25 is present for clampin the channel member against the underside of the rooing boards, and another nut 26 is present for clamping the horizontal extension 22 in abutting position with nut 25.
Referring now tp Fig. 3, instead of the rwall 1, rafters 26 are provided upon which are supported the roofin boards 3. No .dripping piece ,is disclose and the roofing -felt 1s applied directly to the roofing boards The roofing pitch and covering -strip arer the same and the covering strip is clam ed directly to the felt 6, a channel i y' mem er 27 being present Which is clam ed tension 31 to-which the directly against the underside of the roofing felt 6, nuts 28 being presentto facilitate this attachment. The gutter support is designated 29 and is secured between the nuts 28 and nut 30 and terminates in -an angular exutter is supported lby means of screw 1 5 ancgl nut 16.
In Fig. 4 the construction is much the' same as that shown in Fig. 3 with this exception: The gutter support is 'provided wlth a horizontal vextension 32 carried' at the outer end off which is a vertically disposed bolt 33 secured to su port 32by means of nuts 34. The lower end)of bolt 33 carries a substantially U-shaped gutter 35 secured t'o bolt 33 by' means ofnuts 36. j By the above described arrangement, construction and combination of parts I am enabled to provide a roofing structure which is of simple, efficientand comparatively inexpensive construction` in whic 1 not-only is the itchy roofmaterial -preventedl from dis? odgement 4by the covermg' stri but the grutres ect to the roofing felt and 'roofing ter afnd its supportare carrie "bythe, same bolt which clamps the covering stri wiih oar s an is detachable with reference thereto.
at right vparallelism with the outer 4edges o 'ting against theoute rmost ed? Not only may the gutter be eiiiciently andsecurely sllstainedwvhen the roofing boards are arranged at rightl angles to the gutter,
ering strip.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A roofing structure com rising supporting means, roofing'boards t ereon, roofing felt upon said boards, roofing pitch upon said felt, a covering strip arrange in parallelism with the outer edges of said roofing boards and upon said felt and abutting against the outermost edge of said roofing pitclnfmeans including bolts and nuts for clamping said covering strip' down upon said felt, and a gutter forsaid structure.
