Description

we Beltane-* i mm an s;
mama? or roan, ou'rnnro, 'cnmnhr Y 7 emnascam Lauri Application filed li'oveinlier a, 1922. serial No. 603,742.
r I D I 1 To all whom it may'conc em: Be it known that I, 'EREMY zen of Canada, residing at Ford, in the Province ofOntario. and Dominion of Cana da,v have invented certain new and usefnl Improvements in Incandescent Lamps, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates toinc'andescent v lamp having for a eneral object the provil0 sion of a multiple'fi ament lamp.
, 'Other objects relate to the mounting of the filament and to the provisions-of parallel connections or arrangementsfor a single filament whereby the latter serves as a multiple filament, the various sections of the single filament being electrically independent of one another. c
F or further-comprehension of theiliven tion, and of the. objects and advantages thereof, reference willbe had to the following description and accompanying; drawings, and to the a pended c aims in which the various nqvel eatures of the invention are more particularly-set forth. 4
Fig. 1.01 the drawings is a perspective View of' an incandescent lamp constructed according to the invention.
Fig. 2 1s a partial central longitudinal sec- I tional' view thelreofi r f Fig. 3 a etai perspective view '0 one of the fila i nent holdin members. Referring now to t e drawings 10 indi.
y a J cates a glass bulb of usual form which is set V V in the usual plastic material'll'in the thread 3 ed base 12. Extending centrally through this bulb is ,a glass tube 13 whose outer end is inturned to engage over a frusto-conical' neck 14 projecting from a disk-like head 15.- Soldered or otherwise secured to this head 15 is a disk 16 havin a number, preferably five, of inte ral radia arms 17 over the ends of which a ament 18 is. looped.
Adjacent the base of the lamp the tube 13 is bulged outwardly as at .20 to. provide a shouldered element on which sits a disk 21 having anumber of integral radial arms 22 to receive the filament 18. i The disk121 has a central aperture 23 which receives the tube 13. In the making of the parts a nar- 0 row tongue 24 is struck from the disk 21 previous to the forming of the aperture 23 and previous also to the securing to the underside of thedisk of a circularrinteriorly screw-threadedflange 26 which may be soldered in place. 'Engaged in this flange 26 "current flow ing upwardly from an apertured member 28 which 'sits against The 'tongue 24 extends-downwardly outside. the flange 26 and is carried through asuitable apertureinnthe neck of the bulb and soldered at its. end to the base member 12. 'The base of thelamp has mounted thereon the'usual central .contact' element 30 and a wire 31 is extended down the tube 13 and "soldered at opposite ends to the disk 16 and to this element 30.
per and lowersets of arms 17 and 22 and in the lower face of the bulged element 20. t
' Q an exteriorly threaded flange 27 project KIRIAK, a citiof the. filament toifrenrain' attached to the arms in the event of rupture of the filament at some point the ends of said arms are bent as at 17 f and 22 to form V-notches in which the filament is wedged with sufficient force to hold it-in place.
. As will be apparent, the various sections of the filament are connected in arallel, thus in effect producing a multiple ament, and in the event of rupture of ohe section as usual through the. remain ng sections.
My invention is designedmore particularly for embodiment in lamps of low voltage,
such as six to eight volts, although I1 do not limitthe application" of the invention to such lamps. It will also be understood that while I have illustrated and described a preferred'embodiment ofthe. invention I do not limit myself to' theexact construction herein disclosed and that various changes-- and modifications might be. made without departing from the spirit' and scope of the mventlon as definedin the appended claims.
Y Havingthus described my invention what 7 Letters Patent of the United States is. as follows 1. In an incandescent lan'ip, a filament Support comprising an elongated member having a circumferential shoulder formed there on, a disk resting on said shoulder and hav ing '21 depending exteriorly screw-threaded I claim as new and desire to protect by "1 in which said bulb ,is set, a tube exbendsaid'disk'imd engaged'wit 12. In an incandescent lamn, a. bu1b, a. base ov er and ai-n integi-altoniue ljadijating from I said base to forming centrally through the said bulb and the electrical connection between the fila 10 formed withya circumferential shoulderfa, menta'nd thebaset I disk-clamped upon said shoulder and hav In testimony whereof'i'huye afiiired my ing' pgnulhber of arms radiating therefrom signature; andadapted tobayve a filament looped there- 'li lREM-Y KIRIAK v
