To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, lVALTna LEE Hr. name, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tulsa, in the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Teetering Devices, of which the following is a speci .fication.

This invention relates to an in'iprovement in toys for children, and has for its object to provide a toy which will entertain and amuse the child and which at the same time will provide a healthful and exhilarating form of exercise which is well within the physical capacity of the child.

A further object is to provide a toy of this character and having these advantages and which is at the same time of simple and durable construction, reliable and safe in use, easy and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture and is as well adapted for indoor as for outdoor use.

Other objects and advantages of the in vention reside in certain novel features of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accon'ipanying drawings forming part of this specification, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the preferred embodiment of the invention; and

Figure 2 is a View, partly in side elevation and partly in transverse vertical section.

Referring to the drawings wherein for the sake of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 10 designates the base. At one end of the base an upright 11 is arranged and is secured to the base by angle irons 12. Preferably also the lower end of the upright is fitted into a slot provided therefor in the base. The upright 11 is fashioned and designed to simulate the figure of a man, as shown in Figure 1. A standard 13 is arranged on the base in spaced relation to the upright 11 and includes a vertical portion 14 designed to simulate the leg of a man, and having its lower edge provided with trunnions which are mortised into the base 10. portion is fitted at its end in a groove provided therefor in an upright 11. The upright and the standard are strengthened by a top board 18 suitably secured to the up right 11 and to the horizontalsection 16 of the standard 13 and a side board 19 having one end secured in a slot provided therefor in the upright 11 and also fastened to the top board 18.

A vertically swinging n'lember 20 is pivotally mounted on the standard 13 in between its horizontal section 16 and the side board 19, this pivotal mounting comprising a pivot bolt 21 carried by the. side board 19 and the horizontal sections 16 of the standard 1 3 and extending through an opening provided therefor in the vertically swingable member 20. The vertically swingable member 20 comprises a portion 22 designed to simulate the leg of a man and this portion 22 carries adjacent the foot thereof a saddle 23. The member 20 also includes an arm or section 24 which is angularly disposed with respect to the section 22 and lies on the opposite side of the pivot 21 from the section 22. A retractile coil 25 is provided and has its end terminating in hooks 26. The hook 26 at one end of the spring 25 may be engaged with any one of a series of eyes 27 provided on the arm 24 and the hook 26 at the opposite end of the spring may be simultaneouslyengaged with any one of a series of eyes 28 provided on the base 10.

In order to constrain the member 20 to swinging movement in a vertical plane the upright 11 is formed with a vertically extending groove 30 in which the outer end of the arm 2 1 is adapted to play, this groove 30 constraining the member 20 to substantially vertical swinging motion.

A pedestal 32 is secured by angle irons 33 on the top board 18 and is curved outwardly, as at 34 to overhang the member 20. On the overhanging portion of the pedestal 3a a handle bar is provided.

In using the toy, the child is seated on the saddle 23 and grasps the handle bar 35. In this position the feet of the child rest on the ground. By flexing the knees the child may throw a part of its weight on the member 20 which swings downwardly with a smooth and cushioned movement against the tension of the spring 25.
