J. MANOS COMBINED MOLD AND SCOOP Filed March 5. 1925 Patented Nov. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN MANOS, or TORONTQJOHIO, AssIeNOR or ONE-FIFTH To J. n. PARKER, or
i TORONTO', OHIO. y 1
OOMBINEn MOLD AND scoor.
Application alea narch 3, 1925. serial No. 12,812.
To all whom t may concern: s
Be it known that I, JOHN MANOS, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Toronto, county of Jefferson, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Molds and Scoops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combination mold and scoop for ice cream and similar confections, and it has for its primary object to provide a scoop and mold structure havin novel and effective means for expelling t erefrom the molded contents.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is herein had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the invention; and- Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Referring to said drawings, 1 indicates a tubular member or casing, herein shown as of heart shape, but which may be made of other preferred form'. Said casing is rigidly carried by divergently inclined arms 2*? formed on the adjacent end of a handle 2. A slot or channel 3 extends from a point adjacent to the outer end of said handle to and through the front end thereof, and disposed to operate in said slot is a lever 4. Said lever has its rear end portion pivotally mounted in the parallel handle members formed by said slot at a spaced distance from the rear end of the latter and extends ed a transverse pin 9 which has its vopposite ends mounted in oppositely disposed lugs 10 rigidly carried on the under side of said plunger.
The outer end of the lever 4 is shaped to form a gearsegment, teeth 11 b eing formed Disposed 1n operative'` relation to said teeth are the corresponding' thereon, as" shown.
teeth 12 of4 a'- gear segment formed rf-,olie
lever or finger-.piece 13 which is within the' Outer end of the handle slot being mounted upon a pivot pin 14. A spring 15 coiled upon said pivot pin, or upon oppositely disposed bosses 16 formed on the pivoted end of said finger-piece 13, has one member thereof disposed in underlying seat-ed relation to the lever-lil e end of said finger-piece, and has its opposite member resting upon an inclined wall 17 which forms the rear terminus of the slot 3.
The spring 15 normally maintains the tinger-piece 13 thrust forward in inclined relation to the handle, as shown in full lines in Fig. 2, whereby, through the intermediacy of the interengaged gear segments hereinbefore referred to, the lever 4 is held in seated position within the handle slot for maintaining the plunger 6 in its retracted position at the bottom end of the casing l.
The tool described is employed in the manner of a scoop and serves to mold the material collected in the form of the interior of the casing. The so molded material is expelled from the casing by advance movement of the plunger, effected by pressing the finger-piece 13 inward against the handle. Manifestly, such inward movement of the finger-piece acts through the interengaged gear segments to swing outward the lever 4 to which said plunger is attached, as aforesaid, said lever rotating on its pivotpin 18, to the position indicated in broken lines in Fig. 2. Following the said forward actu-ation of the plunger, all of the parts are returned to their normal retracted position by the force exerted by the then compressed spring 15.
As herein shown, the handle 2 is made in one piece, the parallel members thereof being maintained in rigid relation by an integral back portion 2b of saddle-like form.
What is claimed is- 1. An ice cream scoop comprising a tubular casing, means reciprocable within the casing for expelling the contents of the latter, a longitudinally slotted handle attached to said casing, said casing having therein a slot in communication with the slot of said handle, a lever disposed in the handle slot and having pivotal connection with said expelling means, said lever being pivoted to said handle adjacent to the rear end of said slot and having a gear segment on the rear endthereof, a pivoted member having a gear segment operatively engaged with that of said lever, and a spring associated withsa-id member Serving to -lilantan the latter outwardly thrust relation -t-o :sa-id handle.
2. An ice cream scoop comprising -a tubular casing, means reeipioeahle within the easing fo'expelling the contents of the latter, a longitudinally slotted handle attached to said easing, said casing having tlieifein a slot in communication With the slot of said handle, a. lever disposed inthe handle slot and having pivotal connection With said expelling mea-ns, said leve-1P beingV pivotel to s aidhandle adj aeent to the rear end of said slot and having a gear isegment on the rear end thereof, aA`finger-piec'e pivoted in said handle slot and having a gear segment in- .terengazfed with the segment of `said lever, Said linger-piece being depressih'le' for swinging said lever to effect advance of said eX- -pelling means, and a spring associated with said finger-piece for returning the movable pants to theii'` nor-mal positions following actuation.
In testimony whereof, I affix inysignature.
JOHN MANOS.
