gases will impinge. From the coil :21, the pipe 20 is led about the exterior margin of the helical flange 18, preferably conforming substantially thereto. The pipe 20 is adapted to convey a liquid, and it is particularly to be noted that the disposition of this pipe within the heat transfering device is such that the pipe will at all times lie in contact with the most dense portions of the heated gases, from which it is desired to exhaust the heat. il coil similar to coil 21 may, if desired. be provided adjacent the discharge end' of the device. and thence the tube or pipe 20 is led outwardly and may be connected with suitable piping to a radiator 23. whence the return pipe leads to the inlet end of tube 20.

In stating that the air is supplied umestrictedly, I refer to the normal operation of my device, but 1 desire it to be understood that (lZLDlPQl'S ill; be provided as desired. Such a camper 1. shown at 25, and is adapted to shut oil the admission of air to the interior cylinder 55. A similar damper may be provided in l 1 11 to prevent the too rapid passage of h-ea: on air into room 13, if use ssary.
It will be obvious thatthe transfer oi heat can be controlled to a considerable LX- tent by means of dampers 7 and 8. if both of said dampers are open, the will through the device with considerable velocity. It damper 7 is closed it will tend to checlrthe operation of the furnace o other combustion chamber with which th s device is associated. On the other hand. it damper 7 is open and damper is closed, the furnace will likewise to checked. but such gases as are produced therein will be permitted to enter the heat transferring device of my invention, and the heat will be utilized.
I claim:
1. A device of the class described incling an internal cylinder, an external c; i der, a helical flange interposed between said cylinders, means for admitting heated gzases to the space between said cylimlei's,'and conveying said gases from said space, a drain enclosing the outer cylinder, means for admitting air thereto, and means 'for conveying away air heated therein said helical flange having a series of spaced apertures, whereby to prevent excessive v-rhirling oigases between said cylinders.

A device of the character described comprising; a horizontal line portion. a cylinder in said flue portion closed to gases passing therethrough, a drum surrounding said flue portion having a hot air pipe leading from the upper portion of said drum, a second hot air pipe leading from the upper portion 01 said cylinder and into said drum, a cold air pipe passing through the bottom of said drum and flue portion and into said cylinder. and a damper in said cold air pipe, whereby the rate of delivery of heated air from the drum may be regulated.

The combination wi h a flue and an enlarged section therein, of a cylinder within said section closed against the passage of flue gases, a helical flange wound about the cylinder between it and the wall of said section, a drum surrounding said section. means for permitting); air to circulate through said drum, a pipe conforming to the outer margin of said helical flange. and a radiator connected in a closed circuit with said pipe.
