This invention has referenceto envelopes used for mailing purposes in which, things which are ordinarily subject to different postal rates, and which are usually sent in separate envelopes and cartons may be ii closed in practically one and the same package and the sender thus assured that such' things will arrive at their destination together, and is a division of an application filed January 7, 1922, Serial No. '527,575.

The invention has for its principal object to provide a package for mailingpurposes in which may be inclosed automobile license.

Referring to Figures 1' to 4, both inclusive, it will be observed, particularly viewstamped, so that when scored it may be folded into an envelope constructed, as shown in. Figure 1. Such sheet has a front wall 1 and a back wall 2, the line ofdivision between the two being preferably scored, as at a, so that 1 and 2 may be folded on each other, as in Figure 1, to provide a large compartment or (pocket 10 therebetween.

The back 2 along its longitudinal edge is co provided witha flap 3 and the line of division between the flap and back is preferably scored, as at b, so that when 1 and 2 are folded on each other, the flap 3 is folded over the front wall 1 and pasted down, as We 7 shown in Figures 1 and 3. The front-wall 1, along apart of one transverse edge is pro vided with a flap 5 and the line of division between said flap and the front is preferably scored, as at d, and such flap is folded over the back 2, after 1 and 2 have been folded on each other, and said flap pasted down against the back, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1. The front wall 1 has formed integrally therewith the preferably rectangular section 6 joined thereto at one end of the dinal edges of the said section 6 and to the front wall 1 to provide a small compartment or pocket 11 within the. compartment or pocket 10 of the envelope. The compartment or pocket 10 preferably opens out of one end of the envelope, whereas the compart ment or pocket 11 opens out of the opposite end of said envelope. The compartment or pocket 11 is inaccessibly closed by the flap 4, as previously explained, which is pasted down and over the open end of the compartment or pocket 11 and against the front wall 1, see Figure 1. To guide and insure the entrance of a registration or address card into the compartment or pocket 11 when inserted therein, the section 6 of the front wall 1 at the end of the envelope is provided with aflap 7 and the line of division between said'fiap and said section is scored, as at f, so that when the section 6 is folded in, the flap is also folded in and preferably pasted down against the back wall 2, see Figure 2, and dotted lines Figure 1. The compartment or pocket 10 is preferably accessibly closed by a flap 9 provided on the transverse edge of the front wall 1, opposite the location of flap 5 and the entrance into the compartment or pocket 11. VVhile the foregoing described package has its value as a container for automobile license plates and the registration card, it is of course understood, there is no limit to the uses to which the same may be put, and whatever the character or description of the thing mailed in the compartment or pocket 10, the compartment or pocket 11 may contain the name and address of the addressee which may appear on a letter, small envelope containing a letter, or other piece of first class mailable matte-r.

Use of the within described invention obviates the necessity of mailing things, subject to different postal rates. in separate packages, and thereby removes the annoyance due to the delivery of one class of mail with one delivery, and the delivery of a different class of mail matter with another delivery providing of course one or the other pleces of mail is not lost. This has been particularly annoying in the sending of automobile license plates and registration cards. Owners of several cars have been inconvenienced by the receipt of automobile license plates for their different cars, without their registrationdesignating cards. and the plates could not be used until knowledge of which car a particular plate was to be applied thereto. With the package shown and described, however, the plates and card, will arrive together and will be handed to the addressee in practically one and the same envelope, but in a manner that complies with the postal laws, one being sealed and the other unsealed, and each having its own proper postage. The first class postage is applied at@ on the front wall 1 of the envelope, while the proper postage for" the contents of compartment or pocket 10 is applied at D on the front wall 1.

If the window 12 is omitted, the address can be placed on the envelope, preferably in the area described by the lines it and e' and the right angle edges at one end of the envelope. The return card of the sender may appear at the upper left hand corner of the envelope, in the usual manner.

What I claim is 1. In an article of the type set forth, a.

3. A blank for forming an envelope having compartments differing in size, comprising a single sheet of material scored longitudinally to provide front and back portions for the envelope and one of said compartments and one wall only for the other compartment; the front portion provided with a comparatively short section on its longitudinal edge at one end of the envelope with a scoring between said section and said front portion for the inturning of said section to provide the back wall for said last mentioned compartment, and also provided with an address window arrangedto lie above said section when the same is inturned to lie between said front and back portions, and further provided with a flap at each end thereof with a scoring therebetween and said front portion, one 'fiap arranged for accessibly closing one end of the envelope,- the other flap arranged'for non-accessibly sealing a portion of the other end of the envelope; said section provided with'a projection and with a scoring there between, which is ada ted to secure the section to the back portlon of the envelope to provide an openin envelope into one of said compartments, the back portion provided with transversely and longitudinally arran ed flaps with a scoring between'the same an back portion arran ed tonon-accessiblyseal the longitudmal e go on theend of the non-accessibly sealing. one of said compartments.

A blank for forming an envelope having a large and a smaller compartment including a sheet foldable to provide a front and a back, an extension on thefront at one end thereof having an outer end substantially registering with the adjacent end of the front, said front having a window'and said extension being foldable to underlie the window and to form a. smaller compartment in conjunction with the front, a flap on the adjacent end of the front between the window and the rear side of the front formed to be secured to the back, a flap .on the back adjacent the rear side thereof formed to extend over the said outer end of the extension, .and a foldable flap on the outer end of the extension formed for securement to the back to form a guide for the inlet of .the smaller compartment.
