Description

L. w. SELBY BRUSH HOLDER ild Aug. 29. 1924 INVENTOR l WITNESS: vw ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 6, 1925.
' BRUSH HOLDER.
Application led August 29, 1924. Serial No. 734,970.
To all 'whom it may cof/worn:
Be it known that l, LUTHER W. SELBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arapaho, in the county of Custer and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brush Holders, of which y the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in brushes and has for an object the provision of means especially adapted to be removably secured to a paint, kalsomine or similar brush for collecting surplus paint or kalsomine which runs down the handle of the brush when the latter is used in an inverted position.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above character which provides an auxiliary handle capable of'being removably secured to' the brush forl collecting surplus paint or kalsomine, means being provided whereby the auxiliary handle may be used with a number of brushes.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view with the brush shown by dotted lines.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention comprises a hollow member which is shaped substan. tially the same as the handle of the brush to which it is to be secured, the member including a relatively wide elongated portion 10 which is open at one end and which merges into a substantially cylindrical portion or grip 11, the latter providing a collecting chamber 12. This chamber' has a discharge outlet 13 which is normally closed by a cap 14. This cap threadedly engages the member so as to be removably secured in place and acts to clamp the packing 15 over the end of the discharge outlet 13.
The member thus described provides an auxiliary handle which isadapted to receive the handle 16 of thebrush 17, the handle 16 being inserted through the open end of the enlarged portion 10.V The auxiliary handle is so shaped and'proportioned that the brush handle 16 will be spaced from the inner walls of the auxiliary handle except at the enlarged portion 10 and the inner walls ofthis portion are provided with longitudinally disposed spaced grooves 18 which cooperate with the.
handle 16 of thebrush to provide passages, whereby surplus paint or the like from the brush maypass downward into the chamber 12 when the brush is used in an vinverted position. Any suitable means may be provided for removably securing the auxiliary Y handle to the brush handle, the means shown consisting of screws l19.
The invention provides an exceedingly useful article which may be removably secured to a brush for the collect-ion of surplus paint and the like and from which the paint may be readily drained by removing the cap 14. This prevents the paint from running down over the handle and in addition to preventing waste of the paint, acts to prevent the paint from drippingv upon the floor of a room when the latter is being decorated.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly `fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. The combination with a brush having an elongated handle, of a hollow auxiliary handle open at one end to receive the handle of the brush, said auxiliary handle having its inner walls provided with longitudinally disposed spaced grooves extending inwardly from the open end adjacent the brush bristles andcooperating with the brush handle to provide drain passages for directingl surplus liquid from thebru'sh into the opposite end of the auxiliary handle, a normally closed drain outlet for the V`las't mentioned end of. the auxiliary handle and means forrremov-` ably securing the auxiliary handle in place.
2. The combination with a brush having` an elongated handle, of a hollow auxiliary handle open at one end and receiving the site end of the auxiliary handle and the last brush handle, the open end of the hollow mentioned end of said auxiliary handle havhandle being spaced from and terminating ing an opening therein, a removable closure 10 adjacent the bristle base of the brush and OI the Opening and means for removably 5 spaced from the latter to provide a passage securing the handle to the brush handle.
open at the end adjacent the brush bristles, In testimony whereof I aiix my signature. said passage extending through to the oppo- LUTHER W. SELBY.
