A. HORCASITAS HAIR CURLING APPARATUS Filed Sept. 6. 1923 imrulwmmmmllmwwlwm.mai.:
Patented Sept. Z9, 1925.
UNITED STATES ANDRES HORCASITAS, F MEXICO, MEXICO.
HAIR-CURLING APPARATUS.
Application led September 6, 1923.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it vknown that I, ANDRES HoRoAsrrAS, a citizen of the Republic of Mexico, and aresident of Mexico city, Federal District, Mexico, have invented a certain new and useful Hair-Curling Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to` a hair curling apparatus which is simple of' construction and which may be electrically heated to an even and relatively low temperature.
It is an object of this invention to provide an apparatus of light weight so that several of them may be used at the same time without inconvenience to the user and without having to be counterbalanced by weights.
It is another object of this invention to provide an apparatus the heat of which will not increase above a certain point so that the hair may be left within the apparatus for an indefinite t-ime without danger of being scorched or burnt. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of an apparatus made according to the invention. Figure 2 is a section taken longitudinally through the apparatus, and Figure 3 shows how the hair is wrapped around the hooked pin which ent-ers the apparatus.
Like numerals indicate like the figures.
As shown in the drawings, the apparatus consists of an outer tube l and of an inner tube 2 of a smaller diameter, the upper eX- tremity of this inner tube being flanged and turned over the inwardly curved upper extremity of the outer tube, so as to hold the same in place after the different parts of the appara-tus have been assembled, besides providing a smooth entrance for the hair to be introduced into the apparatus. Around the lower part of tube 2 there is a ring 3 in which rests a cap 4 which encloses the widened lower extremity of tube 1. A wooden handle 5 is fastened to the lower end of tube 2 and closes it. An eye-screw 6 is screwed into this handle and through it passes the flexible cord 6 for the electrical current.
In the space between tubes 1 and 2 is located the electrical heating element 0r resistance coil formed by a spirally wound wire 7 conveniently insulated between layers 8 and 9 of mica or other appropriate material.
30 parts in all Serial No. 661,315.
The ends 10 and 11 of wire 7 pass through a hole in the cap 4 and are connected with the twin cord 6a which in turn may be connected with an electric current. The part of the cord passing through the eye screw 6 is Ipreferably wound with wire 12 or otherwise protected to prevent chang of the cord.
A strand of hair 13 is wrapped, as shown in Figure 3, around the pin 14, after having first been passed under the hook 15 formed on one end of said pin, and secured at the other extremity of the pin by a piece of string. Either before or after wrapping the hair around the pin, it is immersed into a suitableI liquid, and the moist hair, wound around pin 14, is introduced into the inner tube 2 as far as possible. As many strands ot hair as are necessary to curl part or all of the hair are inserted into as many of these apparatus, and the electric current is turned on. The length and diameter of the wire 7 forming the resistance coil is so calculated that only a. temperature of about 195O F. is-obtained in order to avoid scorching or burning oi the hair. The vapors given olf by the moist hair during its stay inv the apparatus escape through a hole 1G provided at the juncture of the tube 2 and the handle 5 and left open by a recess in said handle.
The hair is left in the apparatus for about twenty minutes before being taken out, and the relatively low, even temperature pro-v duces lasting curls after the hair has been released from the pin.
What I claim is:
The combination with a handle, of a main supporting inner tube fixed on said handle and projecting in alinement therewith, said handle having an end on which said tube tits and provided with a recess the one side thereof whereby a 'pin may rest centrally on the inne-r end of the handle, said tube having a lateral opening communicating with said recess and being open at the end remote 'from the handle, and heating means on the exterior of said tube, comprising an outer tube mounted on the inner tube concentric therewith a pair of concentric insulating tubes mountedvbetween the inner and outer tubes, and a. resistance coil arranged between the insulating tubes.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
