In a condenser, relatively movable elements forming a condenser unit of one capacity range, other relatively movable ele ments forming a condenser unit of a dilferent capacity range, operating means connected to said former unit to render it responsive to all movements of said operating means and connected to said latter unit through a lost 'motion device, and means rendering said last mentioned unit responsive to all movements of said operating means.

In a condenser, a series of stationary plates, a series of pivoted plates adapted to be moved into the electrostatic field of said series of stationary plates, a portion of said series of pivoted plates being movable independently of a second oi'tion, means for indicating the angular distance the said first portion has been moved into the said field, a scale movable with-said first portion, a stationary scale-arranged to cover said first mentioned scale for a part of its path of movementand a pointer movable with said second portion to indicate upon said first mentioned scalethe angular position of said second portion relative to said first portion when the movement of said second portion produces a' capacitychange of one sign and to indicate upon said stationary scale the angular distance said second portion has moved into said field when the continued 7 movement of said second portion in the same direction produces a capacity change of the opposite sign.'
