Description

sept. 22, 1925.
H. J. WRIGHT CURTAIN .ATTACHMENT FOR AUTOIl0BILB$ Filed Dec. A29, '1924 Patented Sept. 22, 1925.
y VUNI'IED sTATEs HARRY JOHNSON WRIGHT, or HARLAN, IOWA.`
Application filed December 29, 1924, Serial No. 758,709.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, vI-IARRY JOHNSON IVRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Harlan, in the county of Shelby and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Curtain Attachment for Automobiles, of which the following `is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a curtain attachment for automobiles of simple, durable and comparatively ineXpensive construction.
More particularly, my invention relates to an attachment adapted to be -secured to a wind shield post whereby the front edge of a side curtain may be secured in position for forming a. closed joint between the wind shield post and the side curtain.
Still a further object is to providea spring clip in said attachment whereby the side curtain may be properly held in position.
Still a further object is to provide an attachment with a notch so that one edge of the side curtain may be engaged for withdrawing it from operative position when desired.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of a portion of a wind shield of an automobile with my improved attachment shown thereon.
Figure 2 is an enlarged, perspective view of my attachment, parts being broken away and shown in section.
Figure 3 is a detail, sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 `is a detail, sectional view showing the attachment without any covering.
In the accompanying drawings, I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate an ordinary wind shield, which is mounted in a casing 11. The casing 11 is in turn mounted in a wind shield post or frame 12.
The wind shield post 12 is provided with a screw threaded opening 13 for receiving a screw 14.
My attachment includes a member 15 which is S-shaped in cross section. One portion of the member 15, as at 16, is designed to snugly receive the wind shield post 12, as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawings.
The member 15 may be covered with leatherette 17 or any suitable fabric. The
N 1,5.5,1,6e5fv PATIENT' OFFICE member 15, however, may be used without any covering, as shown .in Figure 4 of the drawings.
The leatherette 17 extends around both sides of the member 15 and is secured thereto by means of the rivets 18.
The member 15 is provided with an opening 19, through which the screw 14 extends. A spring clip 20 is mounted on the screw 14.
The front edge of the side curtain 21 is designed to extend into the portion 22 formed by the member 15. The portion 22 extends in front of the wind shield 10.
The side curtain 21 is provided with an eyelet 23, through which is extended the spring clip 20. The forward edge of the side curtain 21 is received in the portion 22 of the member 15, for normally holding the front edge of the curtain 21 in proper position.
The clip 20 prevents the withdrawal of the curtain 21 from proper position.
The member 15 is provided with a notch 24 wherein the front edge of the curtain 21 may be` engaged for withdrawing it from the portion 22 of the member 15.
When it is desired to remove the curtain 21 then it will be necessary to move the eyelet 23 forwardly on the clip 20 until it passes the forward edge of the clip 2O where it will be freed therefrom.
It will be seen that the notch 24 permits me to engage the front edge of the curtain 21 when it is desired to remove the same from the clip 20 and from the member 15.
A felt strip 25 is placed on each side of the wind shield post for serving as a pack ing between the wind shield post and the attachment, as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawings.
It will be seen that I have provided an attachment whereby the front edge of the side curtain may be quickly and easily positionled and, when once positioned, securely helc.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of my invention, without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention and it is my intention to cover by my claim, any modified forms of structure of use of mechanical equivalents, which may be reasonably included within its scope.
I claim as my invention:
combination with a Wind shield post comprising a member bent to Substantially S shape in cross seetom oneportion of 'said member snugly receiving the Wind shield post, means for fastening said member to the Windshield post, a curtain, a clip yon Said last means for maintaining one edge of said 'BY v 1,554,695
curtain in the other portion of said meml0 from said member as and for the purposes 15 Stated.
