c. H. TANNER SQUEEGEE Filed April 9. 1925 ./TTORNEY cimanns n. Tannen, or sr. oLoUn, MINNESOTA.
SQUEEGEE.
' Application led April 9, 1925. Serial No. 21,917.
To ell/whom concern.' Be it knownthat I, CHARLES H. TANNER, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at State of Minnesota, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in a Squeegee,
' of which the following is a specification.
`.This invention relates to cleaning devices and has .slpecial yreference to what is comvmonly cal ed a squeegeevythe same meaning a device for pushing, by close contact, the moisture or dirt from a surface to be description.
cleaned. v One object of the invention is the general construction ofdevices of this A second im ortant object of the invention -i-s to provi e animproved cleaning element for such devices.
A third important object; of the invention lis to rovi'dean improved means for providing or the attachment 'of the device to a handle. 1 v
With the aboveand other objects, in view Aas will be hereinafter apparent, the inven- .tion lconsists in general of certain novel 'details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated 1n the accompanyingdrawings and specifically claimed.
' In the accompanying. drawings like charactors of' reference indicate like parts in the several views, and: elevation Vof the device,
the same being Figure'2 is a section on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
` constitutes the Figure 3 is a section 'on the line 3- 3 of A414`igureL4: 1s a section on theline of n theembodiment of the device as here shown there is provided 2f Plate of nriaterial,A
lower or front end of a handle stick. These two plates are united by having the outersteel late being. referably employed which P headof the device. .This
'11;' plate. 'is'origin'ally of substantially rectan-v gular form, being longer in one dimension than*l the ,other and is doubledlondts longer` v`dimension to provideV aAl substantially vU-. shapedy head having legs 10."A However, the
.iormin4 is; so effected' that the,.p0
inlthe county of Stearns and to improve vthe n'i'i dle of the strip, or .asl-1t maybe .termed the bight, is oftubular, form 11- and which :extend parallel .to each The rubbing elements, as shown in the form of the device, each consists of a strip of rubber or the like and I have found that the most economical material for this purpose is a strip of worn out inner tire tube. 'lo make the rubbing elements in this way it is preferred to take a strip ofyinner tube for each element.v These strips are cut t'o` suitable width and l certain of them are doubled, the first -one being of such width and so doubled on its longer dimension vas to fit within the legs or flanges 10 and tubu- 'I lar portion l1 while, at the same time, having its rubbing edges extend beyond the flan es 10. `Such a strip is shown with its dou led portion indicated at 12 and its legs or rubbing portions at 13. A. second strip Vis fitted within the first strip and has a 15 and a projecting edge 17. Thus 'these' members have their rubbing edges-v rubbin succeively projecting.
In order to hold this head in its proper position with relation to the handle by which the device is' manipulated there isprovided a plate comprising a jaw 18 at its vlower end secured to the front part of the head by rivets or screws 19, the upper end of the plate being bent backwardly over the head and curved to constitute the upper half socket portion 20. i Similarly there is provided a secondplate which is of substantially the same form as the other plate and has its base portion 21 secured to the head by the rivets or screws 19 and its upper por- L tion22 'deflected rearwardly and bent to f form the other half of the handle socket. Thus the two portions 20V and 22 form a cylindrical socket for thereception of the edges of-one overlapping the outer edges of the other as indicated at. 23.
Surrounding-the, rear end of the socket thus 'formed is a strap 24 having.V its ends l doubled to it within said head and nested at right angles 'and bent for the purpose described, said brace being secured to the band and said rear socket'plate. i
There has thus been provided a simple and eicient device of the kind described and for the purpose speciied.
It is obvious that minor changes may be- 1. A device of the kind described includ ing a head consisting of a, plate of rigid materal of U-shaped formation in cross-section, a plurality of exible rubbing elements one within the other, each element having its rubbing edges extending beyond the rubbing edges of the next outer element, and a central rubbing element held between the sides of the inner doubled element and having its rubbing edges projecting beyond the rubbing ed es of the inner doubled element.-`
2. In a evice of the kind described, a head consisting of a strip of material of U-form in cross-section, rubbing elements supported between the sides of said strip,l
socket plates secured to said strip on the. front and rear sides thereof, one of said socket plates havin its lateral edges flanged over the lateral e plate tolock the soc etplates together, each of said socket plates having its free end curved to form .complemental parts of a socket, a band surrounding thecomplemen-- tary socket portions, and a brace extending from the band to thevrear socket jacent the head and vsecured to the and and said rear socket plate. f Y 4 In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
