In Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive there is shown a slightly modified forni of hole forming element which includes a conical peg 18 having a cylindrical portion 19 formed integrally therewith. This cylindrical por-l Loosely ,mounted upon.. Ell@ i tion 19 is provided with a web 20, as best shown in Figs. 7 and 8. Projecting from the free longitudinal face of the web 20 is a lstem 21 having its free end threaded at 22. It will be seen that the parts 18 to 22 of this modified fo-rm of hole. forming element are of identical shape with the parts 10 to 14 of the form of hole forming element shown in Figs. 8 and 4. This modiication further includes a plate 23 which is transversely bent as at 24 and is provided with the side flanges 25 having the points 26 projecting from the free longitudinal edges of the same. This plate 23 is loose ly mounted upon the threaded end 22 of the stem 21 and the flanges 25 and point 26 are arranged on opposite sides of the strip 6. A spring washer, of substantially star-formation, is shown as mounted upon the stem 21 and as designated by the reference numeral 27. This threaded end 22, of the stem 21, is also illustrated as being provided with a wing nut 28 by means of which the spring washer and plate and the peg may be drawn toward each other to clamp the entire hole forming element to the strip 6. It will be seen, by comparing Figs. 7 and 8, that the transversely bent plate 23 will be fiattened out to flushly engage the top face of` the` strip 6, when the nut 28 is threaded downwardly upon the stem 21, andthe flanges 25' and points 26 will be moved intoflush engagement with the side faces of the strip k6. The cylindrical portion 19 of this modified form of hole forming element is also provided with a triangularly-shaped mark 29 which cooperates with the point 26 on the adjacent flange 25 of the plate 28 and the scale lines 9 for permitting accurate spacing of the various hole forming element It will now be seen that the two different forms of hole forming elements may be adjusted longitudinally in respect to the strips 6 by merely loosening the lwing nuts threaded upon their respective stems and 4sliding the said elements longitudinally of the strips.
It is to be understood that the forms of this invention herewith shown and described are to be taken as preferred eX- amples of the same, and that various changes in the. shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spiritpof the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. In a device of the type described, a slotted frame, and a plurality of hole forming elements adjustably carried by the frame, said elements each including a peg, a web carried by the peg and receivable within the slot of said frame, a stem projecting from the web through the slot, a plate loose on the free end of the stem for bridging the slot in the frame, and means adjustably mounted on the stem for drawing the plate and peg toward each other to clamp the frame therebetween.
2. In a device of the type described, a slotted frame, and a plurality of hole forming elements adjustably carried by the frame, said elements each including a peg, a web carried by the peg and receivable within the slot of said frame, a stem projecting from the web through the slot, a plate loose on the free end of the stem for bridging the slot in the frame, said plate having annularly arranged flanges for engaging the opposite sides of said frame, and means adjustably mounted on the stem for drawing the plate and peg toward eac-h other to clamp the frame therebetween.
3. In a device of the type described, a slptted frame, and a plurality of hole forming elements adjustably carried by the frame, said elements each including a peg, a web carried by the peg andreceivable within the slot of said frame, a stein projecting from the web through the slot, a transversely bent flexible plate loose on the free end of the stem for bridging the slot in the frame, a nut threaded on the stem for drawing the plate and peg toward each other to clamp the frame therebetween, and a spring washer for locking the nut, said nut and washer causing the bent plate to flatten out against the adjacent face of the frame.
